I really wasn't pleased with lighting conditions today... all my photos turned out appallingly. PLEASE DON'T SAY THAT!Your photos are really good and show excellent detail of the embarrassing rust on this fine ship. She surely needs a good paint job and a lot of preservation work done to keep her in service for a while more. I have the same problem with my photography. Lighting, et al, et al, et al... Cheer up! You are a great photographer!!

Very surprising she has such a shallow hull. From looking at these pics she must draw almost nothing below the water line. Must be due to the catamaran design: being as wide as she is, her hull doesn't need to be as deep to provide stability.

The Kelsey Bay wharf has a display of historical photos. Here are 2 photos of the Island Princess. One has her in the berth, and the other at the wharf (the wharf has been restored).

IT HAS HAPPENED!! The NIP has lost her Dogwood Carpeting. Pity, I thought she would be the last to lose it. It appears the Queen of Chilliwack is now the lone ferry left with her Dogwood Carpets she'll likely be losing hers when the 2nd half of her MLU begins.

:)perhaps the only good thing I can think of is it is suitable to wipe my feet off on slug matts rather than the dogwood! but again we must remember times are different, and the wack goes on! :)mrdot.

A rare sight occurred as the NIP finished her relief round trip to Little River today... more so than what I just said The NIP docked Bow In at Westview... what a twist! *Images Via the Powell River Peak's Live Webcam.

Cause she probably docked stern in at Little River which is opposite of how the Burnaby docks on that route. You think it would be easier to go bow in at Little River and back in at Powell River! That's odd!

Scott, did you get an explanation for the reason why NIP is berthed stern-to at Little River and bow-in at Westview? I'm wondering if it has to do with her raised-bow's incompatibility with the berth at Little River.

North Island Princess taking a beating in the Strait That was taken on the return trip back to Westview on Monday, October 10th. I was aboard for the trip over to Little River and we were going with the waves, so it was rougher going back to Westview heading into the waves.

Did NIP's crew close the car deck to passengers during that crossing?
Non-local passengers aren't necessarily aware enough to realize that e.g. looking over the edge of the bulwarks during bad weather is a bad idea....

Did NIP's crew close the car deck to passengers during that crossing? Not on the trip over to Little River. An announcement was made prior to entering the open strait that recommended that passengers remained seated, but if they needed to walk around, to do so carefully and use the handrails while in the stairwells.

:)you know I have marvelled at the rough seas that NIP has motored thru over the years since her impropable conversion from the deminutave original Island Princess! cars must have gotten a real salt water bath on many ocasions, and their outer shells must have looked as weathered as many of our northern ferries! :)mrdot.

That was a very entertaining video, although I don't think I would have quite shared the hilarity over the deckhand getting soaked doing his job. I imagine he was sent out to make sure the vehicles were secured.
I wonder what Norwegians, with their high sided visored ferries, would have thought of the North Island Princess with her completely exposed deck, dealing with such seas.

:)I am very impressed with the new format of image displays, and the WSF and coast guard pics, are great, but the large format of the once dimenuative little Island Princess are what I found most interesting. it's been many years since I was involved in the very extensive transformation of this once humble vessel! :)mrdot.

North Island Princess seen at the north-island, on Sunday November 13, 2011. - she's doing a round-trip to Comox. ----------------- She's headed for Comox, and you can see Powell River mill-smoke in the background Passing right in front of my Singing-Sand beach location Passing Queen of Chilliwack. - just as one ship is leaving Little River, the other is arriving. Backing into the berth at Little River. ---------------- Leaving Little River with a close-to-full load of cars. Heading back to Powell River She's headed back to Powell River; and the mill-smoke is visible.
