Here's My Walkthrough of the QQ Number 2.
Later this Week, I'll be posting the Queen of Oak Bay.

Quadra Queen II is out of the water at Point Hope Shipyard. The road is closed coming from the Blue Bridge if you're heading that way for a picture. Was going to grab some photos tonight but a downpour started and I was on my bike. Will try again Thursday. Fairly close to the QQII is the slowly disappearing Undersea Garden barge which is interesting to look at, too.

Just beat the clouds to get this photo today. Anybody know if she is in for a major refit like the Tachek or just some minor TLC? QQII had her own extreme-makeover in 2010-11, at same shipyard. Tachek's recent rebuild was mostly the same as what we first done to Quadra Queen II. So I'm thinking that this current QQII visit to Point Hope is just some warranty work of some sort (maybe a moderate item).

That is a great photo of the QQ II. She had her life extending major work project done a few years ago. The Tachek had similar work done just within the last year, & is currently replacing the QQ II on her route at Port McNeill.
The work on the QQ II this time is less intensive, including routine maintenance, dry-docking (obviously), painting, etc. I don't think any steel work is happening this time around. If I am not right about this I am certain someone will correct me.

It was a nice surprise when I saw her on AIS making her way for Victoria harbour, hope I can get a photo of her in the water at some point.

I'll have a few more shots of the QQII taken from this past weekend, but my laptop is being a bit slow so this will serve as an appetizer. Quadra Queen II by BusShots, on Flickr

The Quadra Queen II was repositioned back to Alert Bay on Monday/Tuesday. She resumed service on route 25 this morning.

Aye Matey There's a wee reef in that neighbourhood too that on one August mornin' many moons ago, Captain J.D. Callan managed to park the Queen of Prince Rupert's wee keel upon.

It's 7:10pm on a rainy/windy January 4, 2015 in Sointula. - the trusty QQII is arriving from Port McNeill. She didn't miss any sailings during the gale wind event.

A couple photos of Quadra Queen II working very hard, on a gale-wind day of January 4, 2015: - poor quality photos to show the kind of day that it was

Mr Horn, I have to take issue with your comment about your 'poor quality' photos.
It seems everybody has perfect cameras these days, and I see so many shots that are perfect representations of vessels. Clarity, colour,lighting... it's all there.
Last week, I saw a marvelous movie, 'Mr Turner', starring Timothy Spall, who some younger members might recognize as Wormtail in the Harry Potter series. He played JMW Turner, a nineteenth century English artist who specialized in maritime painting.
In some of Turner's works, the ship is barely visible through the furor of a storm. A lot of his paintings probably wouldn't satisfy ship enthusiasts who might want everything just so... like the modern day 'Shipspotters'.
I do appreciate the camera quality on a lot of the shots posted on this forum, but I really liked the murkier view of the Quadra Queen struggling through the waves, spray flying, and shore lights glaring through the mist. No need for perfection. Maybe we need some months where the forum headers are impressionistic, photoshopped... more creative in some way. We may have pretty much emptied the well of literal ferry representations, and I have no problem with some moody, 'poor quality' adventures.

I realized in these photos that a perfectly clear photo would not be an accurate representation of the day. Similar to how I eventually realized that photos taken in the fog are supposed to look foggy (duh). The reality was that the rain, wind and fading winter light made for a tough day to be outside on the water. I'm glad that my photos captured that.

QQII at 4:25pm on January 4, 2015. - seen from the WCFF clubhouse in Sointula Lovely winter lighting as she arrives at Sointula I only visit Sointula once a year, on a work trip. But when I'm there, I sure enjoy getting my fill of filming this ship on this north islands route.
