Quadra Queen II is on Quadra Island to Cortes Island. Maybe Tachek is getting some work done at Buckley Bay.

Queen of Nanaimo Teen is back on the coast! Over the last three days I have enjoyed using a new zoom lens which I bought for my camera. The various photos that I will be posting in different threads are all from the same trip. These 3 guys came swimming by as I was waiting for the QQII to depart Quadra! It was interesting seeing the QQII at her namesake island. I wonder whether any people sailing onboard made the same connection?

Later this weekend, I will take what might be my final trips on the Quadra Queen II ferry.
I do a work-trip each year in December to Sointula, and this time next year will likely see me on the Island-whatever new ship.
So I will take time this weekend to enjoy the classic old Allied-Shipyard built ship from the 1960s, as I sail to and from Sointula.
Sometime in summer-2020 (or Autumn 2020, to be safe), the Quadra Queen II will become a roving relief ship; but not suitable to more than just a few minor routes.

After her replacement at Alert Bay, where might we find the Quadra Queen II doing relief work before she's retired in a few years? Obviously, at Cortes. Hornby as well, and maybe Texada, in a pinch. Back to Alert Bay if it's off-season. Saanich Inlet? And could a single ender do Thetis and Penelakut? Don't think that's happened since the Ethel Hunter was on the route. One other option might be the central coast in winter, when the Northern Sea Wolf is off for a break. Would be pretty luxurious compared to the wee Nimpkish.

Once a year at the end of December, I get the same photos of the Quadra Queen II at Sointula and Port McNeill, as I did in previous years. It's an annual thing that has a lot to do with a work-trip that I do in Sointula each year. However, this year might be the last year that I see the QQII on the Sointula route. Sure, she will still be around somewhere as a backup when "Island EverReady" is working, but this likely is my final time to see this ship on the Sointula route. Here are the offerings from late December 2019: Arriving at Sointula at 4:30pm: 20191229_162636 Sointula BC by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr At the end of my late-afternoon sailing, the lighting was perfect for some beautiful views from Port McNeill DSC07952 Quadra Queen II by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Here is some important history: DSC08987 Quadra Queen II by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr I will miss the artwork that made this a unique ship: DSC08994 Quadra Queen II by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

QQ2 Currently southbound near Cape Lazo Not surprisingly, she's ended up at Buckley Bay, where I suspect she'll spend her summer. Or maybe it's just a waypoint. I'm curious as to whether she'll become the fill in vessel for Hornby, when needed. Crews there have gotten used to Quinitsa. Last time a single ended vessel operated out of Shingle Spit, I think it was the Tenaka, so there would need to be some training. Tachek used to be the winter vessel for Hornby, until her permanent assignment at Whaletown.

I wonder if BC Ferries put ramp for cars to service on Quadra Queen II as replacement vessel for Northern Sea Wolf?

Tomorrow and possibly the next couple days will be a rare opportunity to see the Quadra Queen II filling in for the Island Discovery on the Texada route as the Island Discovery broke down this morning and will be out of service for an unknown period of time.

With the Nimpkish being retired, Northern Sea Wolf having no clearly replacement. I hope Quadra Queen II will be replacement for Northern Sea Wolf because she is true spare vessel for minor routes. Will BC Ferries equip and de-equip Quadra Queen II with ramps as similar Nimpkish? I am surprised that BC Ferries has terminal fitting tour after she failed on Westview to Blubber Bay.

In the past, BC Ferries put a tug and barge into service when Nimpkish was out for refit. It will be interesting to see how active the Quadra Queen II will be in the off season, filling in around the system. I wonder if having a ramp added might cause problems at other conventional terminals it will be serving... somehow I doubt BC Ferries would do that.

If the ramps where removable, I don’t see that being much of issue for Quadra Queen II servicing other conventional terminal.

Why didn’t the Quadra Queen II get name change in 1977 like her sister?

The Quadra Queen II is at the maintenance berth at Departure Bay. She might not be staying long, her radar antennas are still spinning.
