In honour of Harry, I've decided that the Quinsam is the most beloved ferry in the world. And I'm going to photograph it every day of the year. Or maybe it just seems that way, as of late. Here are some early morning photos from today, taken from the visiting-vessel pier at the Port of Nanaimo.

Great pics of Quinsam. Here's one that I took on June 15th, BC Ferries 50th Anniversary: This is a bit of an experiment. I have a new flickr account, and I wanted to see how well I could post an image from my photostream into one of our discussion pages. It seems to work. It's not as convenient as Photobucket, but the photos on Flickr look a lot better.

Because whenever I post my photos from flickr, I can only post them in about 500 pixels wide... That's why I post all my pics from my facebook albums now. They don't need resizing, and they're already almost the perfect width

I myself am too lazy All my photos that I post to the forum, excluding my flagship nominations and sigpics, are the raw files, left unchanged.

This seems like the best place to post this question: Gabriola Island; how is it pronounced? I know it's either one of the following: A) GAB-REE-OH-LAH or B) GAY-BREE-OH-LAH which of those is it?

To keep it short, because it's a photo thread: Many residents of Gabriola and Nanaimo pronounce it "GAY-BREE-OH-LA", I'm not sure if thats the official pronounciation, but many people do say it that way.

Quinsam looks ok here, but check out that other boat in the background. - I've zoomed, and I can't make out that ship's name.

Wow, there is a bus on the Sam! That is only the second time I have ever seen a bus on the Quinsam. I went for a ride on her on Aug 25, and took a video of her leaving from Descanso Bay from Shore and zoomed in for a closer look at one of her RAD's. As the ship pulls away from her dock, Listen for the communication between the ship and The Nanaimo Harbour terminal. Also you will hear in the distance the Safety announcements.

If you take the time to look at the details of the upper deck, the stern cockpit and the bow angle you will notice that these are actually different vessels... Sorry... Oh and the lack of chopper and landing pad area is a dead giveaway...

Re: Yacht in Nanaimo.
This is actually the Silver Shalis. She was tied up in Ganges just the other day. According to Siitech, she's in the San Juans tonight at Friday Harbour.

Just a quick asside. The latest Washington yacht Attessa 36 , an extreme makeover of the former yacht Evergreen, is nearing completion, and is due to be revealed at a party later this month.

Quinsam at Nanaimo harbour, on September 11, 2010: - heading towards Nanaimo, from Gabriola Island. - in the Nanaimo berth. - Leaving Nanaimo, you can see the rush of water from her port-side RAD unit. - Powering-up and showing smoke. - Nice view of the RAD units on the corners of the ship.

I got a close-up view of Quinsam in mid-journey today. Here are my pictures from Gallows Point on Protection Island: ---------------- Approaching Gallows Point, after leaving Nanaimo. --------------- - with Jack Point in the near background and Gabriola Island in the far background. I like the effect of the small craft's wave. At Nanaimo harbour terminal: - with a Harbour Air deHavilland Otter. With the old Nanaimo hospital building (used as hospital until mid 1960's) in the background on the hill.
