For the passenger, the Nimpkish has more outside forward viewing space than does the Northern Expedition. Those 2 pickle-forks on Nimpkish are a great place to munch on some raw veggies while sipping some water.

Is their something I missed I wasn't aware the Tenaka was up for sale?? Wow she sure the hell would be better suited for Discovery Coast than Nimpkish that's for sure....her vehicle capacity is bigger and that would make a world of difference, also her passenger lounge is bigger too

I have seen nothing from BC ferries that she is for sale.

You & your gear could fit on one pickle fork while Scott & his gear could take up the other pickle fork. But would there be enough bottles water & raw veggies?

Two more photos of the Minister's Yacht in route-10S service. Tuesday August 4, 2015, as she heads to McLoughlin Bay, south of Bella Bella. - I'm northbound on Norex, and we just dropped-off traffic for her. 119 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Friday August 7, 2015, I am in NorEx's Vista Restaurant, and while southbound in Lama Pass I notice the tiny (N)impkish making her way towards Bella Bella from the south. -The Nimpkish was an unexpected and amusing course to my dinner experience. 20150807_183346 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr ------------- It was great to see Dasani Queen twice in my week of trips.

And here are my viewings of Nimpkish, in video:
I'm ashamed to admit that the second time, she caught me by surprise. It's probably because I was totally focused on the buffet...

The Nimpkish was the wrong ship for this route... At least they could have used something better...Even the Tenaka or Tachek would have been better than Nimpkish at least their a little bigger and hold more cars. Hell even the North Island Princess would have been better...Larger passenger cabin and holds more vehicles.

These kinds of posts are frustrating because they don't addresss, or even consider, the reasons for the situation. I'm assuming that Roeco is aware that there are likely good reasons for most or all of those ships not being used at Discovery Coast. If he's interested, we might be able to have some good discussion.

Hey Im just looking at the side that obviously Mr Stone didn't....and Im sure u will agree...His side was the Nimpkish..however I don't think anyone else would agree or take Mr Stones side of things. But in reality it doesn't make any financial sense to purpose build a ship for Discovery Coast connector,..If they Brought back ROute 40 in the Summer then It may be an idea, but who knows with what BCF thinking is!

Replying to your two posts here: The Tenaka is essentially retired, barring any unforeseen issues with the Cable Queen. As for the Nimpkish, it is my belief that she will be replaced at the same time as the NIP, as Todd Stone has indicated that he wants a larger vessel for route 10S.

BC Ferries mighty MV Nimpkish off Bella Bella, BC's Central Coast - 10 August 2017. She is headed over to McLoughlin Bay to pick up the people & cars that just got off the Mother Ship NorEx. This little boat currently does the lengthy 'milk run' between Bella Bella & other points on BC's Central coast such as Ocean Falls, Shearwater & Bella Coola. Next year it will be replaced by the larger vessel once named 'Mr shoppy One'. © WCK-JST by Jim Thorne, on Flickr

Regarding WettCoast Jim's post, above... Nimpkish looks immaculate. I wonder if BC Ferries has been making an extra effort to at least keep her looking good, in view of how utterly inadequate she is for the central coast.

The 'MV Nimpkish', is definitely being kept in fine tucker, ...and one might notice that she has SEVEN windows along each side of her passenger lounge which would appear to offer better viewing of the seascape vistas, flora and fauna et al, than does her ultimate successor the 'Northern Sea Wolf'. I join other members of this forum that are somewhat bedeviled at the purchase of a vessel that could be classified as the MV'Norad Lite'. Without a bow door, the loading, jostling about, etc. of the various types of vehicles one can expect to see using this mid-coast service is just plain dumb! Anyone who has stood on the car deck of the 'Norad', knows of what I speak. Actually loading and unloading the 'Norad' is slightly less troublesome because she is a longer vessel than the 'NSW'. BCFS buys TWO non-RO-RO ferries from Greece. The Greek sellers must be very slick salesmen as the 'Norad' and the 'Northern Sea Wolf' are the only two vessels of this type in the whole fleet. Given BCFS's move to standardize docks/berths etc., WHY would they purchase two vessels that obviously don't fit the "mold" They didn't get that hot a deal as I can recall on the 'Norad' and had to do upgrades etc., as will they have to do on 'Mr. Shoppy 1 when she makes her sparkling presence in BC waters. And, the public will suck up the 'we need to do some (MINOR)? refit work on the 'Northern Sea Wolf' when they should be screaming 'WTF'? Going back to our dear wee 'Nimpkish', she's a RO-RO, has more, bigger windows and that magic 'potable water'. Thank-you Mr. Stone! Is there no common logic in this world anymore? Anybody who's a member of the facebook nautical heritage site, check out the photo of the Nimpkish off Rebecca Spit in heavy weather... quite something.

WOW!, Great shot of the mighty 'NIP' fighting an angry sea! Don't let Mr. Goundar see this picture or he will want to add the 'NIP' and maybe even the 'Nimpkish'to his fleet when BCFS is done with them.

A little over 2 weeks ago, I along with Mike C set off from the Lower Mainland and made the long trek to Bella Coola. The reason as you may have guessed, to ride the mighty Nimpkish on the Discovery Coast before her coming replacement by the Northern Sea Wolf. Here are my captures of that trip from Bella Coola to Bella Bella! There were so many pictures from this trip, I decided to split this post into two.
Warning: VERY Photo Heavy! All Photos are © CS16 Photography and may only be used with Permission from the Owner. Before we dive into the trip, first some pictures from the day prior to the trip.
When we arrived, the Nimpkish had just arrived back from Ocean Falls. She had deadheaded there to do dock trials on the new berth. Had we realized this, we might have been able to get some arrival shots, but alas.
Now to the day of the trip! In preparation for the Northern Sea Wolf, they were in the process of repainting the berth. Over in the harbour, we could see a new component of the berth that will allow the Sea Wolf to better fit.
Some shots from the Government Wharf.
Moving into position for loading, which allowed for a good profile shot.
Now we go aboard the Nimpkish. Only my second time ever doing so. The Port Lounge. I guess you could also call it the TV Lounge.
Up on the Sun Deck as we prepare to depart.
and away we go! As you'd expect, it was pretty cramped navigating the vehicle decks. Now for some Scott Angles.
End of Part 1...

Part 2 of pictures from the Discovery Coast Trip. Warning: VERY Photo Heavy! All Photos are © CS16 Photography and may only be used with Permission from the Owner.
Kicking off part 2, a look from the other side as we close in on Ocean Falls. A little sad to think that among the northern vessels, the one with the best forward viewing is the Nimpkish. Arriving at Ocean Falls. Being the first regular sailing to Ocean Falls in a couple months, most of the vehicle traffic on the trip offloaded here. Some also had to be reloaded. I took advantage of our time in dock to get shots of the empty starboard lounge. Your one stop spot for all the Potable Water you could ever need!
Away from Ocean Falls and on to Shearwater. Much easier to walk around the vehicle deck now. In dock at Shearwater. Now for the last and fastest leg of the trip: The ride over to Bella Bella. Arriving at McLoughlin Bay. The view from shore before she moved out of the Berth to make way for the Northern Adventure. Finally, we come to the end with this picture taken from above on the NorAd. Overall we had a fantastic trip! The scenery on its own makes the trip worth doing. The Nimpkish, while definitely unsuited for the route has her own bit of charm. It's the kind of feeling you get from riding a workhorse vessel like the Frances Barkley. As long as you know what you're getting into and plan ahead you'll have an enjoyable trip.
That's all for Now!

Curtis, I didn't see any food at the counter... is it self-serve, as in bring your own and nuke it?

Curtis, I didn't see any food at the counter... is it self-serve, as in bring your own and nuke it? Yes, it’s more or less “self-serve,” or more accurately, “bring your own food.” We had bought sandwiches and snacks the day before so it didn’t affect us. Everything on the counter is complimentary, but the offerings were limited. Other than water, for drinks they had Coffee, Tea and Hot Chocolate. For food, there was cookies. No muffins, no pastries, just cookies. They had all been pillaged by the time I took that picture. Oh, and if you were curious about that fridge below the counter, there was but a single can of evaporated milk in there.
