Little Q at Buckley Bay: - August 9, 2014 8:20pm 9:55pm Camera: SONY Model: DSC-RX10 ISO: 160 Exposure: 5.0 sec Aperture: 2.8 Focal Length: 32.8mm Photographer: Mr. Horn. Model: old one. ISO: I so happy. Exposure: my legs. Aperture: near sighted. Focal length: progressive lenses. ---------------- I was at my viewpoint location for 5 hours, and it was interesting to observe the comings and going of that busy highway corner and the filling-up and emptying of the ferry terminal lot. Doing this on a Friday night in summer would be more interesting, re overflows and ship-shuttling. A pleasant time for me to be outside.

Nice pics, Mike. I was there that morning, just a little before 8:00am. I haven't tried the store area for photos, so I'm interested in seeing what the angle and obstructions are like, for Quinitsa photos from the store area.

Quinitsa on some evening round-trips between Buckley Bay and Denman Island. - seen August 9, 2014 by me, from my spot at the highway rest-stop.
Nice evening lighting, and then the ship in the dark...

Here is the late afternoon & evening timelapse of Buckley Bay and Quinitsa, as the little ferry makes her way back and forth across Baynes Sound.
A bit more entertaining than watching paint dry. The construction barge at Buckley Bay is interesting to watch as it moves about with the currents.

This afternoon at Buckley Bay; cars lined up down the highway, as BC Ferries switched to the 'off season' schedule, while customers arrived for a sunny island weekend, and apparently, two large weddings and a baseball tournament on Denman. Yessiree, summer ends at Labour Day. No shoulder season.
One thing that did make me smile, though, after the wait... Quinitsa had to pull out a bit from the dock before the apron could be raised behind the last car, and the gates were fastened with the rope, because they couldn't close around the car's bumper. How often do we see that in today's safety conscious ferry world?

'Neil' and 'Koastal Karl's' latest postings depict the sad state of affairs at BC Ferries! Not sure whether to laugh or cry at the downward spin our ferry system is experiencing. Maybe we can drive enough paying customers away so that we won't need to carry on the discussions we've been having, (on another thread) regarding vessel replacements. We won't need any new ships!

Why waste money sailing ships that are almost empty when those cars or passengers could catch the sailing that are main sailings on the route.

Even before cost saving summer end after labor day because people were at work or in school and why waste money sailing ship almost empty when those cars or passengers could catch the sailing that are main sailing on the route. I try not to be too picky about grammar, but this sentence doesn't make any sense. Some appropriately placed punctuation and proper sentence structure would help here.

I get that for the most part, school begins shortly after Labor Day, but not if you're in college like me. Oftentimes, the fall quarter would start towards the end of the month. And people are just trying to enjoy that last little bit of summer sun before the dreary winter.

"If you can't be with the one you love, then love the one you're with" Here's some photos that sadly are not Quinsam. Instead they are Quinitsa. - seen by me on November 18, 2014 Mr. Horn signature shots, showing the low-traffic times that I sailed: - 7:00am to Denman - 5:45pm to Buckley Bay --------------- View from Denman-West, around 5:40pm ----------------- If you wonder what ferry fans would see if they dropped acid, here's what it might look like

My video of Little-Q, on a lovely mid May evening, sailing from the Metcalf Bay Ferry District to Buckley Bay.
- it would have been more direct to travel via cable-barge, but I enjoyed the indirect route with those 2 pod-assisted turns.

www.cheknews.ca/bc-ferries-crew-saves-life-of-kayaker105231-105231
The crew of the QUINITSA rescued a kayaker near Buckley Bay. Not only does BC Ferries provide an essential transportation link for coastal communities... the crews on the ferries make this coast a much safer place.
The fact that this incident happened on a Friday night at 2145 was fortunate for the kayaker. Due to cutbacks to the schedule, the QUINITSA ties up around 1900 every other night of the week. So not only is BC Ferries (via the government) providing less essential service, but also limiting the times that crews are able to respond to emergencies. - John H

Who'd have thought there was still anything worthwhile to be contributed to the photographic story of the humble, much chronicled Quinitsa? Lighting, composition, angles... leave it to Scott.

When Scott and I made the trip, and the BSC happened to be out on trials at the same time, I will say that our new cable barge makes the Quinitsa look like a far more attractive vessel

Some additional images of the Quinitsa taken on the same day as Scott's. On this day, she was operating in "shuttle mode", and ultimately found herself one full round trip behind schedule, despite light loads. I am attributing this to the crew's fascination with the sea trials taking place adjacent at Denman West on the Baynes Sound Connector. Photos dated September 1st, 2015, and are copyright Michael Coulson. See more at www.flickr.com/coastalnavigator.MV Quinitsa by Michael Coulson, on Flickr MV Quinitsa by Michael Coulson, on Flickr

Nothing special, just a quick shot of Quinitsa making her way into the dock at Buckley Bay during the long weekend.
