Well, Quinitsa is still sitting at Fulford, and Kuper is sailing her usual route. Maybe the suspicions about a failed dock fit were correct, and Quinitsa can't be the relief vessel she was supposed to become when the cable ferry took over at Denman. Or maybe BC Ferries has just re-scheduled things. My guess is (and this is just speculation) she failed her dock test so BC Ferries decided it would be more economical to have her stay down south and replace the Howe Sound Queen then once she returns to Buckley Bay find another time for her to replace the Kahloke and allow the Kahloke to head south to replace the Kuper

A look at the Quinitsa sitting in Berth 2 at Fulford Harbour, while the Skeena Queen is in Berth 1. Tomorrow morning the Quinitsa will take over operations on Route 6 for the Howe Sound Queen for the rest of the week. Neat to see the size difference between these two similar ships. It's been a long time since the Quinitsa was last at Fulford. I'm told that she spent some time on the Fulford run in the 80's Quinitsa and Skeena Queen at Fulford Harbour by Deck-dog SSI, on Flickr

I've seen it mentioned on a community Facebook group today that BC Ferries told a local ferry committee that Quinitsa will be operating on the Crofton-Vesuvius route this summer.
I didn't see anymore detail than that, other than this means that Quinitsa won't be able to provide summer "big boat" service to Hornby Island, as had been thought possible.

That was also confirmed some time back by the Hornby/Denman FAC. Hornby is apparently in line for the new 44 car class in about four years.

Quinitsa added a 3:30 pm sailing to Otter Bay from Swartz Bay and 6:00 pm to Fulford Harbour from Swartz Bay, this has only happened to today.

When I looked, a couple of hours ago, Quinitsa was docked at Fulford. Does Ferryman Chris, or anyone else, have any further info as to whether she's being pressed into regular service on the disrupted route five?

Yes, Quinitsa ran couple trips on Sunday afternoon and Friday afternoon. I not sure what schedule Quinitsa is on or may only be MD sailings.

Do they have records of a dock fitting at all of the Southern Gulf Island terminals...? I'm only half joking.

I imagine most of the docks have been rebuilt since then.

I talked to terminal staff on Sunday night at SB and Qunitsa is indeed doing MDS on the weekends out of Swartz Bay till the Cumberland is back, so the Eagle can maintain schedule levels out of Tsawwassen. Quinitsa did some summer supplimentary service in the early 80s after Quinsam took over Gabriola service, and also in the mid 80s some winter work on route 4, freeing up the Bowen Queen to relieve Mayne Powell River and Howe Sound Queens.

Yes, she looks small in these photos....because she is small (relatively). However the purpose of these pictures is to capture a glimpse of her with the Active Pass/Sturdies Bay backdrop. Here she is, making her approach into Sturdies Bay, flying the Bravo flag, indicating she's carrying Dangerous Goods. Yesterday the web site showed Raven doing route 9, Eagle on route 5 and Quinitsa doing one round trip on route 4, and one extra on route 5.

She was out again yesterday (the 6th). I'll probably try and get a ride this week for something different.
Of course this is one of those great ideas where I catch a boring barge and about three minutes out of Swartz Bay I'm going "now what?!"

Isn't there some thrill in the novelty of making a maximum 9.5 knots in the Gulf Islands?

Quinitsa is on her way out of Fulford, looks like she is headed for Swartz Bay. Perhaps we are getting extra route 5 service for the busy weekend?

Quinitsa just went past outside of Departure Bay, heading north. For anyone keeping track; the Quinitsa left Fulford earlier today and has been bopping around the the gulf islands. Currently departing Village Bay. I’m not sure if these are supplemental to route 5/5A or maybe DG or something else entirely. CORRECTION: currently *docked* at Village Bay. EDIT: Heading back in the direction of Swartz Bay, I think its safe to assume she’s carrying traffic. I wonder if this will be a normal Sunday afternoon thing for the summer...

Maybe I'm being a bit picky here but the deck on the 'Salish Raven' appears rather bedraggled for a ship of such new vintage. ..Just sayin'..
