The 7:10pm Swartz Bay to Gulf Island sailing is cancelled tonight. I have a feeling it's the Mayne Queen. The Cumberland is still sailing though. Not too often it's windy enough to cancel the Gulf Island Ferries from Swartz Bay!

Mayne Queen as the dangerous cargo ship, returning to Swartz Bay from the southern Gulf Islands. The dark clouds indicate that yet another storm is on the way. February 16, 2014.

A Recording of the Mayne Queen's Whistle that was likely recorded at the same time as SolDuc's Above. EDIT: Remind me never to upload a duplicate recording again.

MV Mayne Queen, just being the Mayne Queen: -Here she's departing Mayne Island, on July 13th of this year. It was quite a nice evening to be out on the water.

A few photos of the venerable Mayne Queen approaching her namesake terminal back on July 13, 2014. This was taken from the Queen of Nanaimo on a lovely evening cruise. -I like this side angle... And in dock. About to take on traffic for Galiano and Pender:

I just got back from this event. I think I was like the only customer there. Everyone else were either employees or former employees. This event was not too well publicized on the BC Ferries site there was nothing mentoned. The twitter page mentioned about her turning 50 but nothing about an open house was mentioned except for this one post of the news release on the boat itself. I guess that is why the ticket agent at Swartz Bay knew nothing about it. I just parked in the short term for like 90 mins. The Mayne Queen was like 30 mins behind so she dident arrive until 1pm so I only have like 30 mins on her cause my parking expired after that. Was given a lanyard and a pass to go down to the boat. Not much else to tell. They had cake and coffee some ballons through out the lounges. They had a few old articles and a guest book which I did sign. So yeah that's about it. I managed to have this day off so I figured I might as well go for a little while! I wonder if they will do this for the Cumberland when she turns 50? lol!

It sounds like Powell River Queen 50th was much better with two very large cakes (tasted great),one on board and other in Campbell River. They had free cake, hamburgers, veggies, hotdog, coffee and tea for everyone. With PRQ they even had the Campbell River's passenger lounge done up like diner with flowers with looked great. Like Mayne they had pictures showing how ship changed over the years. The turn out for PRQ was great and very little employees other than ones serving food. Everyone wants BC Ferries to do it again. I wonder it they going to do one for Bowen? I hope do it while it is filling in for PRQ so I can get move that cake.

:)after a 1966 QPR meltdown start to my seagoing service, but some later service at Swartz Bay which included Mayne Queen, perhaps my most interesting time was on our replacement vessel at the time, the old Motor Princess/Pender Queen and her old wooden car deck! :)mrdot.
