Neil (and all),
I have the initial RFP saved on my "ferry USB stick" which doesn't seem to be with me here in BC. Will require another week or so to post the information once I arrive in lovely Ontario to be re-united with my digital aid.

Scott, that glassed-in area visible on both the first and last photo you posted; what's in there?

It's a new Kidz Zone.... the perfect place to dump your kid off to watch Blues Clues.

Scott, that glassed-in area visible on both the first and last photo you posted; what's in there? That's the Kidz Zone, which has nothing more than a TV in it right now. Here are some of my Cumberland pics from yesterday: You can see the Kidz Zone more clearly in this pic The Snack Bar is still basically the same Of course, no BC Ferry is complete without the Queen's Photo A pretty light load. Outside of us, there weren't too many people on board. Queen of Cumberland at Village Bay

The lifting arms caused too much hassle on the Capilano and Cumberland because they often broke down. They were removed within a few years. The 'C' Class vessels (minus the Alberni) originally had lifting arms, however they suffered the same problem, however while the Cowichan and Coquitlam's were removed within a few years, the Surrey and Oak Bay's were kept for many years after. The Oak Bay kept her's the longest though. She had her's until the Mid 90s. Does anyone have any photos of the Cumberland or Capilano with these original lifting arms? I've looked through my earliest photos and all of them are from after they were removed.

I believe I scanned it from the cover of a Harbour & Shipping.

The 'Cumberland used both her ramps on her mid-morning sailing to Pender/Mayne today (and likely other sailings too, as Route-5 covered for route-9 today). Here's the loading of one ramp at Swartz berth-3. The finished product: both ramps in use, as she leaves Swartz. And when I (on the SOVI) catch up to her after her Pender stop, she's down to 1 ramp only.

Queen of Cumberland, leaving Otter Bay on July 2, 2011. Just as 'Cumberland is leaving, Mayne Queen is arriving. Later, off of Portland Island, on her way back to Swartz Bay:

Queen of Cumberland on a late morning sailing on July 2, 2011. In berth-3 at Swartz Bay: Leaving berth-3: We're passing her (on SOVI) between her Pender Island and Mayne Island stops. Oh, so that's what that light-marker is for. Hard turn into Village People Bay

:)in this new free ent. co. economy model, it is mind boggling that the name Cumberland has not been flushed, and some travel ind. jingle hasn't been applied to this heritage name! Perhaps another project for high priced managment crew! in this best place on earth! :)mrdot.

Queen of Cumberland seen at 6:00pm on October 18, 2011, as she is on her way back to Swartz Bay. - my vantage point is the lookout on Salt Spring Island's Mt. Maxwell. ---------- - Cumberland is passing Portland Island, and Skeena Queen is heading out from Fulford Habour. - Cumberland is a white-dot, but easy to find if you follow the route path, based on the prior photo. - Cumberland is near Piers Island.

Here's BCF's impression of their own ship. Their branding is somewhat lacking. Tisk tisk... And here she is in full HD, sailing from Sturdies Bay:

She's on the left side of the photo, in front of Portland Island. Skeena Queen is seen leaving Fulford Harbour. Close-up of 'Cumberland in front of Portland Island 'Cumberland is now on the right-side of the photo. Her Route-5 friend "Mayne Queen" is now on the left-side of the photo, also returning from her first trip of the day.
