The Q'Cumber looks lovely in the early morning light. - seen at 6:10am in Active Pass. July 15, 2013. She's on her way to Galiano on her first round-trip of the day. The main point of the first part of this trip is simply to get the ship to Galiano, to pick up any traffic bound for Victoria. The 6:40am trip from Galiano to Swartz allows Galianians to spend a day in Victoria for appointments, shopping, etc. - seen from Mayne Island, at Miners Bay. ...and in a banner crop.

Some pictures of the QCumber in the Southern Gulf Islands on July 20th/21st: Heading to Sturdies Bay, from Georgina Point: MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr In Navy Channel, heading to Village Bay: MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Arriving at Village Bay: MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Arriving at Sturdies: MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Departing Sturdies. Yes, some of you might wonder what my vantage point is. Well, it's actually the terminal building, with a polarizer to cut all the glare and reflection from the windows. This was the first time I did this, and I must say that I am amazed with the result. Those $50 I invested are definitely worth it. MV Queen of Cumberland - BC Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

We didn't have any forum photos of Queen of Cumberland at Lyall Harbour, until now. Q-Cumber on her Saturna Saturday, at Lyall Harbour. - 4:00pm on Oct.19, 2013. She only visits Saturna once per week, on this Saturday afternoon trip. - And this was our sailing for leaving Saturna (we took Mayne Queen on our trip to Saturna) -------------- Painting of Queen of Cumberland, displayed in the waiting room at Lyall Harbour, Saturna Island:

Queen of Cumberland arriving @ Swartz Bay on a grey Sunday afternoon in late September 2013 (29 Sept) A lot of grey on our coast in recent weeks. Today, I saw the 'Cumberland using Berth-1 at Swartz Bay. I'm not sure why it used #1, because both berths #4 & #5 appeared operational. - SoVI was in berth #3, out of service. - C-Cel was using berth #2 Anyways, I took a few photos and some video of this "event" at Swartz. I'm not sure how rare it is to see 'Cumberland in berth #1. It did cause some confusion among foot passengers loading (not knowing how to get to berth #1), in spite of various announcements. Photos and some video to come, in a few days.

If I remember correctly I think I might of taken the Cumberland when she used berth 1 at Swartz Bay. I havent seen her use that berth in a while though. I know the Skeena and Mayne Queen have also used berth 1 as I remember seeing them in that berth.

I believe Chris (Ferryman) posted a photo a year or more ago of the Skeena in at berth 1.

It used to be a pretty rare sight to see any other vessel besides Route 1 vessels using Berth 1. However, when the SOVI has been tied up at Berth 3 during the off season, the normal berth assignments get switched up at certain times of the day. However, not knowing what the full situation was like this morning, it's hard to understand the logic. The Skeena is usually given priority for Berth 4 in most cases, since Berth 5 is almost impossible for her to make it in there when there's the SOVI in Berth 3, and one of the Seaspan vessels in their dock. The Cumberland is good to use Berth 5, 9 times out of 10, but I think they prefer whatever other options come available if possible. Berth 1, is an absolute pain for any Gulf Island vessel though, while Route 1 is in Berth 2 due to where the traffic for each destination is lined up in the terminal, so there are cross traffic delays in that case. Route 1 of course, getting priority loading of their traffic.
Side note: The Bowen and Mayne Queens cannot fit in Berth 2 (too narrow), so you'll likely never see those vessels in that berth. The Cumberland and Skeena can make it work though.

What do you mean to narrow? The Coastals use berth 2!

What do you mean to narrow? The Coastals use berth 2! I think that its the ferries, not the berth, that would be too narrow (ie. problems with wingwalls and keeping the ferry steady against the Dolphins).
