I don't see how they can still operate a boat that has been sold, unless it is some kind of lease agreement. But that would cost them money, and I am sure the Tsa and the Esquimalt were paid off a long time ago. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) / letter of intent could easily cover this. There are lots of explanations, such as the MOU noted above. The "news flash" from 7-Sisters left no room for discussion or interpretations. It was just "......it's SOLD!!!!!!!". However the real world has room for lots of possible transactions and agreements, and it's quite possible that there has been some sort of agreement struck. Those on this forum who understand the concept of "discussion" and who live in a world where there is the possibility of "different scenarios" have done ok in thinking of the possibilities re the Esquimalt's disposal.

I would say that in any sense of the word "sold" both these boats still belong to BC Ferries. As BC Ferries is still actively using them, and assuming the risks and rewards of the asset, then for all intents and purposes they still own them. When is year end? 3/31 - same as the Provincial Gov't.

I'm curious as to whether or not she will be used again after she's done on Route 30, which her last day will supposebly be March 31st. By the summertime, the Coastal Renaissance and Coastal Inspiration will free up the Queens of Esquimalt and Vancouver.
On Route 2/3, I've heard a rumour of a 4th boat running on Route 2, doing extra sailings on that route, along with a few Route 3 sailings. This would probably be done with the Queen of Coquitlam, and putting her based at either Horseshoe Bay or Langdale. But I still feel a 4th vessel should be dedicated to Route 2, while Route 3 is given a dedicated vessel for that route in the summer. But would it be with the Queen of Esquimalt? With the way she's been running, with a slightly increased amount of hicups, and showing her age....would it not be a better idea to put the Queen of Vancouver in her place for the summer on Route 3? OK, there would still need to be some crew familiarization. But lets face it, the Esquimalt needs to go.

So any word on the location of the Esquimalt...slash rumours of her actual sale or what?

To save you the few seconds of reading another thread in this same forum, or doing the google search -- she's currently tied up at the spare berth at Langdale. No further word on a sale. Feel free to take the time and read some of the rest of the posts in various sections of the forum - there really is a wealth of information here if you take the time to read thru it!

I heard from a crew member on the Coastal Renaissance that the QoEsq has done its last day of service, and is now being stripped of useful equipment. Barring a major incident on another ferry it seems the Esquie is now pretty much history with BC Ferries.

... the QoEsq has done its last day of service, and is now being stripped of useful equipment. We've heard the 'rip & strip' before, but there was another "source" that said that they were starting to cart things off the Esquimalt. It seems odd that they would be stripping her out at Langdale though. If there was anything useful onboard, or anything that they needed to dispose of that was hazardous or toxic, wouldn't it make sense to do it at a major terminal (Tsa, DPB, SB?) or at Deas?? Over at Langdale, they have to load it all up onto another boat and take it to the mainland and then truck it around - why not "ferry" it right to where they need to get it? I have no doubt that they are probably starting some of the dismantling of unused areas/items (upper lounge etc) if the is nearing the end of her life/resale, but for the major stripping out and the "decontamination" that would have to be undergone before she is officially sold (even if it IS where-is, as-is) I would think it would be done at Deas... My two cents...

I think this time around BCFS is serious on this case. Now cad, was this the same thing with the TSA that she was getting stripped down? We could see if we can pay our final respects to her before the Queen of Richmond trip.

The Esquimalt likely will be moved again sometime before the busy summer schedule starts. She'll have to make way for the Coquitlam to come and sit in berth 2 at Langdale. I'd be surprised if the Esquimalt goes back to Departure Bay at this point, but could see it being layed up at Deas, like the Victoria was.

Makes sense to put it at Deas in the summer. After all, it's not a very busy place at that time! (unlike right now!)

The guy said they were taking BCF property out of the Tsawwassen that would not be sold with the ship like crew computers, chairs and tables, some running gear, and removing passenger accommodation's. The Esquimalts ticket expires 2009 04 03 so I aint going to set my ways again just yet.

I can't find another dedicated thread for this, so I'll risk replying here. Just to say, don't believe everything you here about ferries going to Turkey. But my offer still stands... give David Hahn a free one-way ticket on the first ship that sails to Turkey.

Seeing as though she will be seeing service most of the Winter/Spring on Route 30, plus extra sailings from Departure Bay, I doubt that.
