Do you have a source for this info, Kyle? Source: Kyle's internal bank of unused sarcasm. ....I thought it was a funny response to a thread that really has no purpose. Haven't we been talking about this in the "service notice" thread already?

Esquimalt will be back by Friday according to RBI. The Vancouver has to be on route 1 Friday so hopefully the Esquimalt will be back by then.

Esquimalt was back in service today. . .or shall I say 'is back', running until at least 2am each night. Then, before you know it, turns right around for the 5am first sailing. Talk about a 'mule' run!

I would hazard to guess that is why she was pulled for a few days - you can't get very much maintenance done in the few hours that she has offline on those days. The only other time that any kind of maintenace could occur would be overnight Saturday-Sunday with the reduced winter/fall/spring sailing schedules eliminate the last two/first two runs giving about an 9.5 hour downtime ... but then again, this would probably be work done on OT so that is not too good of a cost saving plan.

And sure enough, the Queen of Vancouver made its way over to Swartz Bay this morning to assume its role of the 3rd vessel on Route 1.

That photo is of the soon to be gone Q of Esquimalt, a few years before she was lifted. She is shown in Active Pass en route to Swartz Bay. The photo is from 1979, according to Mr. DOT.

A fellow from Texas stubbled upon my Flickr.com photo website, and asked me if I would like to see a photo of the Queen of Esquimalt from 1966. He was just 13 at the time, and was vacationing in BC. He has given me permission to post the photo. The photo was taken by Neil Mackenzie. Here's a photo of the Queen of Esquimalt after rounding Helen Point on Mayne Island, seen from either the Queen of Vancouver or Victoria.

From September 1992 I have a scratchy video of V's in Active Pass, complete with ships' horn. While the rest of you were riding on the CR's first official in-service voyage I was with a friend attempting to get a decent digitized copy from my old 8 mm videos. Unfortunately the machine in use to play back the video has some issues, and I need to try another one with the intension of getting a better copy... Later!

There's that classic E-Major chord I haven't heard for years! You were either on the Vancouver or Victoria at the time. I have a feeling it was the Victoria. But the ship coming in the opposite direction is definitely the Esquimalt (smaller car deck window near the bow). Was there anymore footage so you could figure out which ship you were on at the time? (ie looking at a lifering?) PS: Another option besides getting another old camera, would be to get the VHS tape converter where you attach the 8mm tape into the VHS tape. Saves alot of hassle. You have to be careful with them though, because I accidently wrecked my parents $100 VCR a few years back (when VCRs were the thing) with using one of these tape converters.

Thanks Graham, looks great!
I hate to spoil it for everyone though, but it appears that every pic labelled as "Queen of Esquimalt in the snow", is actually the Queen of Vancouver. The 3 horn chimes on the funnel was a dead giveaway, along with the side shot taken from the skywalk, which shows the deck 3 platform deck windows.

Well, I decided to open up my fotopic site and make a few changes here and there, seeming I haven't actually touched it for months now. But there's now another 60 pics uploaded in the Queen of Esquimalt album, taken from the evening Karl, Scott and I were given a tour of her at Departure Bay, by Scotts Dad. So those pics, and more can be seen: photosbychris2006.fotopic.net/c846425.html

karlsferryphotos.fotopic.net/c1076214.html Those are my 118 photos of the Esquimalt which I have taken within the last year or so! I am glad I have all these photos of her now as she might not be with us come early next year which is sad!

I wonder what the last chance to travel on the Esquimalt will be?
Would it be the last week of the summer-schedule on the Langdale Route 3 ?
What do you folks think?
I think I'll try to go over to the mainland to do a trip on the Esquimalt, sometime near labour-day.

I was wondering the same thing, Flugel. I suppose, depending on when she's "retired", that she might be busy on some later long weekends and over the Christmas season. They might need her around before the second super-C arrives while other ships are in for their annual refits. But the end of this summer is probably the only guaranteed time we could get on her.

Seeming no more C's will be in for Mid Life Upgrades this summer, that means the Coquitlam will be back to the usual replacement for ships on Route 2, 3 and 30. The Esquimalt will still be a spare, and soon we'll have the Coastal Renaissnace. Then again, the Queen of New Westminster is supposebly going in for an interior upgrade either this coming winter/spring. So I'd imagine that the Esquimalt would probably finnish off her service life with BC Ferries with the arrival of the Coastal Inspiration, as John said.
I'll probably do another trip on the Esquimalt around Labour Day, as Flugel suggested, just to be safe on getting on her for one last trip. If she's running at anytime after that, I'd probably go for an extra trip for the fun of it. I'm hoping they put her on Route 1 at least one last time before she's retired. I've never been on the Esquimalt on Route 1 before, so it would be kind of interesting for me.

Strange that some have never been on the Esquimalt on route 1. When I think of the Esquimalt I instantly think of Swartz Bay – Tsawwassen. As a kid while traveling to Vancouver from Victoria during the 80’s - 90's it seemed like I was always on that old girl. Now it just feels weird not having it on that run.
I’ll bet the same thing will happen once they push the C’s around. Some people are going to be weirded out.
