Now I see how the QotI was so hard to unload she had a small bow door

I was wondering the same thing. This would explain the thin loading ramps on the old berths in the Gulf Islands.

Did those bow doors last her entire career? Thats the first time I've seen them. Ugly.

You can make out the widest BCFC seemed to ever have had the bow doors from this shot. Sorry I didn't quite get that.

Is there anywhere with a map of the interior of the Queen of the Islands? I am totally ignorant as to that vessel, I know nothing about it except apparently it was a nightmare to load no matter where she was! Oh, oh! I know this one! Go to the St. John's fishing lodge website! www.stjohnsfishinglodge.com/lodge.html

She was narrow, and there wasn't much room for vehicles to to either side of the ship.

That is small! no wonder she was hard to load Those shots, however, aren't necessarily the widest those doors ever got. You can see the widest the entrance was, probably doing away with the doors, in this shot (although there's a chance St. John's FL might have done this widening): i11.photobucket.com/albums/a156/Kahloke/PA300150.jpgIn the book The Queens of British Columbia, their profile-shot of the QotI still shows her with narrow doors, but the picture could have been old at the time, and the book was published way back in '74.

No, that book is way too old to find in any of those stores. I was lucky and found that book, and the Dogwood Fleet book at a Garage Sale. So I'd recommend going to a pawn shop. There used to be a place called "Popeyes" in North Van, which was right by the Automall, and they had a Dogwood Flag for sale. The only problem was, it was $100. So I worked for a few days, and came back, and the store had packed up, and closed down. Anyways, they had all sorts of used books on the ships and everything. There is actually a book to look out for that I noticed at a book shop, that was all about the Burrard Drydock. So they had pictures of the Ferries being built/modified at the drydock, along with other ships.

Speaking of the Burrard Drydock..... When I was down at the Pier that you can walk along down there a few weeks ago, I found the old ramp that the ships/ferries would get sent down for being launched. It's kind of hard to find, but it's there. I thought it was pretty neat to see. I'll take a picture of it next time I'm down there.

Okay, I'll just get it online. I'm not exactly in a mad rush to drive all the way to Sidney to get a book that I can just order over the internet...

Well I don't mean that the only copies are in Sidney, I just mean that if I found copies in 2 stores there, then there's a better chance that your closest used book store has a copy. try in the phone-book for a store near-by and support local buisness.

Yes I know, It would just be a bit easier to order it online then trying to find it through book stores that aren't gaurenteed to have it...

Since you're on books here right now, someone somewhere mentioned "Evergreen Fleet", (I think that was it).... anyone know where I could get a hold of that? I've got "Ferryboats-A Legend on Puget Sound" by Kline/Bayless, but would like the other one also.

well I've searched about a half dozen book stores in Van Vic and Sidney, and haven't yet found a copy of Evergree Fleet. But be sure that if I do find it, I'll grab it... 'Everyone for themselves', I say.

The Evergreen Fleet is an awesome book! I took it out at my library using the inter-library loan system(That means another library sent it to my library).
