Sunshine Coast Queen, near Gunderson Slough in North Delta, about twenty years ago. I believe it had "Canarctic Explorer" painted at one end, as it had been briefly owned by Canarctic Ventures of North Vancouver, and there was some plan to use it as a supply ship up north. Don't think that ever happened. And, it wouldn't have been long after those photos were taken that this story appeared:

Great find; thanks for posting it, hornbyguy. For some reason, though, I can't envision the Suzy Q as a luxury liner with 7 passenger decks.

The photo is undeniably taken just outside the entrance to Horseshoe bay, as you can clearly see the railway and highway grades on the cliffs above the ferry.
And the mountain in the top left corner of the photo... I remember that mountain being almost straight ahead when you're looking up Howe Sound from Horseshoe bay.

a small world, too young to remember the actual vessel, but travelled the Strait many times before the bridge was built. Name the Straits and the vessel as a BC Ferry.

I have no idea as to the name of the strait, I know it's in the great lakes somewhere.
As far as the ship goes, that beautiful old girl can only be the Sunshine Coast Queen, BC Ferries' first large double ender.

Strait of Mackinac (pronounced "Mack-in-aw"). It's across the top entrance to Lake Michigan. It connects the 2 land-parts of the State of Michigan. The necessity of the ferry was replaced by a large suspension bridge. there's an annual walking event that goes across the bridge. Suzy-Q.

Very Nice Photo of the Suzy-Q. Very Dynamic Shot. I notice alot of her hull is out of the water, must have been empty.

That's how high out of the water she was supposed to sit. When she worked for BC Ferries, her hull had to be filled with cement for ballast to lower her down into the water. This was done so that the ramp was able to land on the car deck properly. So with a literally rock hard hull, which was was designed for Ice breaking to begin with, she was able to wreck alot of wingwalls at the docks.

I think that may have been the least fuel efficient ship BCF ever operated, it was enough that it effected the operations of the ship to reduce its amount of time sailing.
One of the most interesting ships, I think!
