Just to add that when she joined BC Ferries, on route 2, she was of course still Chinook II, and after she was replaced by the Sunshine Coast Queen to Langdale, she replaced Queen of the Islands out of Long Harbour.

And then being replaced by the Sidney and thus sending her to the Powell River-Comox Route then being replaced by the Nanaimo and thus sending her to the Powell River-Comox Route. Kinda a chain reaction for those 2 routes The Burnaby was on the Swartz Bay-SGI route before switching to Victoria-Seattle So it looks like many gulf Island Ferries go to Powell River-Comox for some reason

Sechelt Queen backing out of Horseshoe Bay - 9 Sept 1972 photo - JST That's literally one of the best images I've seen of her, let alone in Dogwood Blue and at that angle. Thanks

PR Teen, I don't believe the Burnaby ever served in the Gulf Islands, and definately not out of Swartz Bay. Queen of The Islands was replaced by the Sechelt Queen, then the Tsawwassen, and I believe the Sechelt Queen had a second stint as a supplementary Gulf Islands vessel out of Tsawwassen when the QT was on the run, then of course the Nanaimo was placed there. Before the Sechelt Queen went to Powell River-Comox, Queen of the Islands and Comox Queen (Tenaka) did seven round trips a day on that run. Agreed, the above is a super nice shot of the Sechelt.

To the above post, I can remember riding the Queen of Burnaby for certain, from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen in 1983, and again in the mid 1990's. It definitely ran that route at one time. In the later version of BC Ferries "Exploring" magazine, there is a shot of the Burnaby berthed "Stern in" at Swartz Bay, berth 2 or 3. There is also this postcard, which shows the Burnaby in the Gulf Islands (Not as big as I'd like, but if I find a larger version I'll post it....)

Yeah she was probably on there for a short time before being renamed the Royal Victorian on the Seattle-Victoria Route

She also served as an extra on Route 2 just before she was leased to the Americans.

That's a intresting photo. I've never seen it before and I never knew she helped out on route 2 as a relief before 1994

Yeah, it's not too often you see a B-Class on Route 2 in expo colours. I found this postcard back in the 90s. But was suprised to come across a store in Nanaimo that still sells them during my last trip over there a few weeks ago. If the members that live in Nanaimo want to know which store it is, it was at a souvenier shop in Port Place Mall across from London Drugs. They sell this one, and a few other interesting ones of the Ferries entering Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay.

To clarify, I meant that the Burnaby never served the Gulf Islands out of Swartz Bay, as had been suggested. Nor Tsawwassen-Gulf Islands, as far as I can recall. She was one of the regulars on route 2 prior to the C class, but obviously had stints on route 1.

Before the C-class, the regular boats on route 2 were the New West, Burnaby, Nanaimo & Tsawwassen. In 1974 the Tsawwassen was replaced by the Surrey [North].
Then, in 1976, all changed when the C-Class arrived.

Re B Class on route 2
In August of 1991 I was on the Queen of New West (Before her Lifting) on a extra sailing from Departure Bay to Horeshoe Bay. I remember this as I was on my way home from a 3 week Stint up at HMCS Quadra.
Also between 1991-1995 time period I was on the Queen of Nanaimo and Queen of Burnaby on route 2. Both ships at diffent times were providing extra sailings.

I remember this as I was on my way home from a 3 week Stint up at HMCS Quadra. Wasn't the QoNewWest already lifted by the end of 1991? Or is the date on John's site speaking of when she was taken out? 1991The Queen of New Westminster followed the V-class ferries in having an upper car deck installed to increase vehicle capacity. At this time, the lower car-deck platforms were removed to increase truck capacity.(found here: www.geocities.com/ferries_bc/profiles/bcf_qnwest.html ) Cheers. P.S. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I'm here to learn.

I think I have the reason why the New West has the higher car deck! When they removed the ramps that lowered the tonnage if the ramp was full or empty so the higher car deck was because they removed the ramps plus it is a trucker route she runs. Get what I'm saying?
