I actually want them to call it the Denman Dream, because then I can nickname it the Denman Nightmare.

I vote for "MV Clothesliner" The literal meaning of hanging on by a clothesline, and the figurative meaning of clotheslining the communities... nicely done.

Spuzzum Sky You know, now that I think of it, I like that name more than Denman Dream! It just sounds spazzy, perfect for a cable ferry.

At the Official Namimg Ceremony: Over the P.A.system comes: In as much as a suspended wire rope strung across that stretch of water is a crazy idea to begin with, but since it will be bringing the 'Great Unwashed' together in real time, for a long time, as do zillions of other 'cables' around the planet; We are proud to announce the zaniest name in the fleet: Welcome the C.V.JIM CAREY! Now Zing and Zip Dammit! .... the P.A. Speakers are subjected to a horrendous blast of debris comprised of unused Assured Loading Cards, Experience Cards, Coast Cards, sea sick bags, galley scraps, hurled by the invited guests - as the sound technician breaks a wrist trying to twist the volume dial to mute. Ah..it's been that kinda week

I propose a name that will include a pun.
"Bayne of the Islands"

Perfect, Low Light Mike! It also reminds me of the Queen of the Islands. I wonder if both vessels might end up having a similar reputation. We'll see...

Just in case this post causes any confusion, I need to clarify a couple of things: 1) The Denman cable ferry will not be electric powered 2) The Denman cable ferry will not have any overhead cables of any kind, for any purpose. I am not aware of any other cable ferries in BC that use an overhead cable. River reaction ferries use overhead cables to keep them in place, but I consider those "reaction ferries" not "cable ferries." All that being said, this is an interesting drawing and name. It's just not relevant to Denman Island's project. Oh, so the cable will be overhead? Here's a name (if this is all electric):

The Cable Renaissance, coming to an island near you soon ... Arrow Lakes 'cable' ferry Needles at Needles - Faquier crossing on Hwy 6 between Upper & Lower Arrow Lakes, BC interior - 6 June 2014. The cables on either side of the hull keep the ferry in place only (i.e. on the 'straight & narrow'), while the centre cable is the one the on-board propulsion gear 'pulls on' to draw the ferry toward either shore. The cable ferry that is to connect Vancouver Island to Denman Island should look much like this, only larger, and the crossing will be much longer. © WCK-JST by Wett Coast, on FlickrUpdate, Mr. Horn has corrected me over on the BC Inland Ferries section to state that the Denman cable boat will actually look a fair bit different being long and skinny with a centre console with wheelhouse control room placed on top. Where exactly is the Pacific Buffet to be located?

Where exactly is the Pacific Buffet to be located? In the crew's mess or in the hull with underwater portholes overlooking fish big and small.
