why dont they use the Galena as an extra boat on the Kootenay Lake route and retire that old MV Balfour boat??? I actually like the design of the Galena and Shelter Bay more than the new boat! The Galena needs to stay at arrow lakes as a back-up for the Columbia. I strongly disagree with the decision to retire the Galena permanently instead of keeping it as a back-up for as long as the Columbia is in service. They intend to decommission and (possibly) scrap both the shelter bay and galena in the not so distant future..

Yesterday i spotted the MV Shelter bay parked off the shores of Nakusp where they constructed the MV Columbia. Not entirely sure why its there but id take a wild guess and say they are doing refits. If thats the case, the DEV Galena should be getting refits instead

[/quote] Not sure. I hope they aren't though. The shelter bay is a very slow vessel compared to galena. Its not worth it to fix the smaller one anyway

I re-edited a video of mine from September 2013 at Shelter Bay, on Upper Arrow Lake.
The result is a real-speed presentation of the DEV GALENA's arrival, and then crew-transfer to the moored MV SHELTER BAY.
This capture of history is what I was trying to do, during that September 2013 trip visiting various inland ferries, many of which are now, or soon-to-be, retired. ie. Adams Lake, Arrow Park, and these two.

where are these boats now?? I never saw them at Shelter Bay last month! Wouldn’t the Galena be a good replacement for the MV Balfour?? I assume she is pretty old that ship! I am thinking of going back in September for some more inland ferry fun!

The Galena, Shelter Bay and Arrow Park II sit high and dry on the outskirts of Nakusp BC. September 18, 2020 Thanks very much for this. I'm assuming this is at the location in the attached map link HEREHere are 2 screen shots from that Google Maps link, showing DEV Galena and the Shelter Bay at anchor at a prior time. They look like a tiny island in this view: Nakusp 1 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr nakusp 2 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr
