I read some paperwork this week that if it comes to past, will provide those of that have an interest in submarines a very rare opportunity to see one out of the water and up very very close. Last week Seaspan positioned a floating dry dock in Esquimalt harbour upon which the RCN Chicoutimi is to be placed after her nearly 3 years out of the water in a special building at the Graving Dock. This is the sub that had the fire crossing the Atlantic and subsequently arrived on our coast on a heavy lift vessel. One plan to put the sub into the water has the dry dock being towed to Ogden Point and slid into the slip between North A and South B, just in front of the benches people sit on to watch the cruise ships, just a matter of 30 feet away. The dry dock would be flooded, the sub floated out and towed to Esquimalt. Then, the RCN Corner Brook would be towed to Ogden Point and put in the dry dock for the reverse procedure. Timing is not know at this point, but will be very soon, perhaps the week after the cruise ship season has ended. If this is the program which will be selected and I do hear of the date, I shall post again.

Monday, November 25. 4 Seaspan tugs positioned a floating drydock at Ogden Pt. Aboard was the Chicoutimi, which will be floated off during the night. If you are driving down, be aware that the mail parking area has been blocked off, and you will have to park either in the big lot opposite the gift shop (free) or over by the Cafe where you hve to pay. Sorry for the picture size, but I do not know how to make it larger on this board. grk
