If the owners of that house the train is passing by ever decide to sell, I would think they'd need a very good real estate agent who dare not use location, location, location as a primary selling feature. No offence to the current owners/tenants of that house but you couldn't give that place to me. ..Yikes!

Your lucky if it is 2 return trips a week.

We don't get much railway action on Vancouver Island.
Here's some switching of cars at the Wellcox yard in Nanaimo. Limestone slurry is sent from mainland via rail barge to this Nanaimo yard, and then it is transferred to trucks and then trucked to various mill locations on the island. So this rail yard is reinventing itself as a trans-load facility.
Propane cars are still taken in a train to Superior Propane in north Nanaimo, the E&N's only remaining rail customer.

Thanks for this. We need to name this traffic-island as "Chris Island" in honour of your great use of it over the years. #4069 in April 2016 comes to mind.

Is the Top Shelf Feeds transload area near the old sawmill, at the south end of the rail yard, accessed from Port Drive? Yes, that's exactly where it is. It's just an auger with a portable shelter. Here's a photo from a few years ago showing the transload area: SRY 110 ~ Wellcox Yard by Chris City, on Flickr

WFP 301 has just dropped a string of empties at Siding 6 and are now making the short trip to Woss to tie up for the day. This crossing at Gold Creek is another example where the logging road and railway share the same bridge. After taking this photo I waved to the crew and hit the highway, ending a two day trip to the Nimpkish Valley. March 26, 2017. Sounds like on Tuesday WFP will be letting the union know what the future is for the railway, employees think they will officially shut down operations. Sad day indeed! Is WFP using 'safety' as their reason to kill?

Sad day indeed! Is WFP using 'safety' as their reason to kill? With any railway based on one resource, I guess you eventually get to the point where there simply isn't enough product left to be carried, or it becomes more viable to carry it by a more flexible mode, in this case, trucks. So now I guess Vancouver Island is down to that sliver of functioning track around Nanaimo, or is there any other non-tourist revenue carriage left?

Alberni Pacific Railway is running a "Santa Train" this weekend. The route takes it from the old train station (near Alberni Quay) towards town, but not as far as Rogers Creek bridge. Therefore, the plan was to run the #7 steam locomotive, per my conversation with the conductor and engineer. However, that locomotive didn't co-operate (I'm assuming problems because of lack of activity lately), and so the #11 1942 "GE" diesel-electric locomotive (in MacMillan Bloedel red) was pulling the train. The 1912 Shay "Two Spot" was at the station for show. I was in Port Alberni for work, this morning. After my work was done, I was driving to Alberni Quay to see Tenaka, but this caught my eye instead. I didn't ride the train, but I was happy to get photos (and video) of it. - then I drove to the Quay and saw that Tenaka still exists.
