My pleasure. The other two ferries will get only limited coverage from me. Just places of interest if I desire to post. The same goes for the rest of Seaspan's new ships.

It has actually been quite reassuring that there are quite a few other "ferry nerds" out there besides myself - I check the Orca's progress daily...sometimes several times daily. I spend quite a bit of my time in Baja and I wonder if I could spot one of the three Salish sisters' off the coast of Mexico on their way up the west coast towards B.C....that would be a sight to see...even if I needed binoculars to spot them. I just hope these prove to be good ships...I will be a frequent user (of the Eagle and Raven) over the next 40 years...

The SALISH ORCA is well underway for Panama, where my next update will be posted. Maybe earlier when she enters the Caribbean.

Anyone know where BC Ferries plan on to take possession of the ship. Are they going to bring the Orca into Departure Bay upon arrival like the Coastals or somewhere else?
According to Vessel finder she arrives in Colon on Dec 14

Salish Orca approaching the Panama Canal. I'm hoping to see this on the Gatun locks webcam.
I'm supposed to be out Christmas shopping right now...lol. This is more fun.

I am leaving tomorrow to join her on the Pacific side of the Canal; we've been told that we should expect to join sometime on the 16th.

Hi, new to the forum but have been a ferry fan as far back as I can remember! I started amateur sports at age 7 and from Victoria getting to events requires a LOT of ferry trips. I have fantastic memories of trips on the older BC Ferries and the Coho. I think the Salish Orca is having troubles, or it's just me not understanding what's going on. But she's been outside Panama for 4 days now with a marine repair vessel along side. So rightly/wrongly based on this I guess January 18th. If you're interested, I'm tracking the Salish Orca on my website here: patbaywebcam.com/orca.phpSorry, hopefully I'm not breaking the advertising rule by posting this, my website is strictly non-profit for enjoyment by everyone. I also have many photos of ferries in the Saanich Inlet but at the moment they are sprinkled throughout the monthly galleries. If i'm not asked to leave I'll gather them up into a dedicated Ferries gallery for viewing. tak

That's a fantastic website that you've created and maintained. I love your determination to create a webcam in such a beautiful spot. I will be bookmarking this one. Welcome here.

Thanks for the warm welcome! If Orca goes through the South Gatun lock I'll be making a timelapse video of the transit.

I've been watching the trackers daily when she arrived at the Canal's north end. For the past several days, she had a vessel named GUSTAVO CASTRO along her side. Must be a supply vessel. The CASTRO was also alongside the SEASPAN SWIFT when that vessel was waiting to transit the Canal. www.shipspotting.com/photos/middle/2/9/7/1942792.jpgwww.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1942792

Waited five days to be able to do a cool time-lapse passage through the Gatun lock and all I got was this blurry logo. Just couldn't wait a wee bit longer and use the South lock. Oh well, two more Orca class to go next year ....

The SALISH ORCA is on her way to BC. After transiting the Canal, she spent some time anchored outside with a vessel named MIGUEL PINEDO along her side. Fuel top off? Might be. Food for her hungry sailors as well! Her destination sign shows an ETA Vancouver area of January 6, subject to change as she cruises along the western coastlines of North America.

The SALISH ORCA is now in Manzanillo. She arrived there at an anchorage spot this afternoon. From this webcam: www.webcamsdemexico.com/webcam-manzanillo-panoramicaWebcam capture of the ORCA in Manzanillo this afternoon. I think the crew wished for a swimming pool aboard that ferry! Yes, there are those who don't like small dots of the subject of interest in photos displayed. I put this here anyway to show you what the weather is like where she is.

Good. Welcome to the place where we all know why. We look forward to receiving Salish Orca into our British Columbia waters in January. She's come a long way from Gdansk.

I've made a 30 second timelapse video of Orca going through the Panama Canal Miraflores lock. Being at night the image quality isn't quite there but you get the idea. patbaywebcam.com/orca.php#pan1If Orca left Manzanillo for Vancouver right now, at an average speed of 12.5 knots it would take 7 days, 18 hours to go the remaining 2,328 nautical miles according to www.sea-distances.org
