The Orca has been anchored at Manzanillo for over a week now. Any idea what's the hold up there? Anyone have any idea when they are due to depart & is it a straight shot up here or would there be 1 more port of call?

In my gossiping department of things, the crew may have been on a holiday break. It would be sweet to learn if their families were flown in to celebrate the meaning of it with them as well. Her next destination will be revealed after she weighs anchor and the trackers get a blip with info. She'll get to BC when she gets there. Don't guesstimate on her ETA.

The ORCA might not be in this scene, but I had to share this to all of her followers of what a beautiful morning that ship had there to start off the new year. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Orca has left Manzanillo. The Voyage info on marinetraffic.com still list it's previous leg.

The Orca has left Manzanillo. The Voyage info on marinetraffic.com still list it's previous leg. Subject to change, the SALISH ORCA is pencilly destined to Vancouver (US or Canada?). When watching her on MT yesterday (Tuesday, 01-03-2017), she had a vessel alongside of her. Now, I guess you can guesstimate her arrival in BC according to your calculations.

I am Surprised that her predicted course is to Vancouver Washington, rather than home to Vancouver BC. Vancouver Washington is way off her travelled path.

Keep in mind that it is a foreign crew on the bridge and perhaps have never been to this coast. Few would know that there are 2 Vancouvers on the coast. I would suspect that once the vessel is in and reporting to US VTS that will be corrected. In reality, it is a very common situation for ships heading north from Panama to have this incorrect entry into their AIS transponder.

Perhaps the delay in Manzanillo was to provide an opportunity to check not only engine, but hydraulic and water filters. After a short run in period it's common to check newly built mechanical components for contamination / swarf. The possibility exits that something was noted and acceptance from someone had to be obtained (read warranty work).

I spend a lot of my time on the southern tip of the Baja...and of course I am NOT there as the Orca goes by.
Won't make that mistake with the Eagle....which, as a SGI'er is more "my" ferry anyway. Any educated guesses by the knowledgable folks here as to when the Eagle may begin it's ocean crossing sojourn?

I've been doing a few calcs on a possible arrival time to Vancouver BC patbaywebcam.com/orca.phpOrca left Manzanillo 8pm Jan 3rd, plus 7 days 4 hours to Vancouver at an average speed of 13 knots, is arrival on the 11th. It'll take at least another stop for my Jan 18th guess to have a chance at being correct. Question, is it closest date before or after that wins?

Vesselfinder.com has her arriving Friday morning, hopefully! Last report was Christmas day. That may be wishful thinking if you wish she was in BC this Friday (01-06-2017). She'll need jet engines to do that! Rocket engines? Maybe. This morning trackers sees her cruising along the southern shores of Baja California. Her crew must be enjoying Mexican culture on their radio dials during their lounge breaks. It looks like she has rust already as seen in the photo displayed by "Chris City" above.

Jeez, I think you're right about the rust, FNS. Looks like a scupper below the window, draining gunk right over the company logo. Well done on that aspect of the design... hope that's not an omen.

As of 1pm today the Orca is about to cross into US waters as It's abeam with Tijuana Mexico.
A friend of mine who is a Chief Stewart & works the HSB-DEP BAY just informed me & has heard the Orca will be off the Victoria Pilot Station Wednesday morning & scheduled to have the BC Pilot board at 8am

Currently as of 3pm abeam off of San Diego California.
I'm told that it will be in the Inner Harbour anchored. I'm presuming once delivery has been handed over to BCF it will probably go on public display at Canada Place?

Perhaps they might first want to get it to the shipyard at Esquimalt where it can be polished up a little. She is looking just a little "bedraggled" from the long ocean crossings.

These are just intermediate vessels in the fleet, not Vancouver-worthy, in my guess of the head-office opinion. If anything, it would be an "Open Ship" event at both Comox's Little River and at Powell River.

I am working a night watch just now, and see that the order for the pilot was placed by "The Master". As with the voyage of the Seaspan Swfit, this is his best guess of arrival time and VH (Vancouver Harbour) as destination is just a general destination in order for voyage planning to be done. Once BC Ferries, or the delivery company, retain the services of an Shipping Agent the pilot time and final destination will be entered into the system. I doubt very much that she will go to anchor, as the limited anchorages are in very high demand. I would expect to see her travel to BC Ferries Deas facility or perhaps a ship yard for inspection and hand over inspections.

The Orca will be abeam off of Monterey California shortly & the crew onboard are having a rough ride as they are battling 36 Knot winds. It's been a rough ride all night with high winds & it looks like the remainder of the day will be the same due to high winds.
