Seems like they will be at the Victoria pilot station 8 hours earlier now & also they will be proceeding to Fraser Surrey docks

I would assume Deas Dock is her destination then. Why would they deliver the ship at Fraser Surrey when it is further up river than Deas? The 3 coastals were taken directly to Departure Bay.

The SALISH ORCA is at BUOY " J"uliet and is tracking inbound on her home stretches to her BC destination.

Buoy J should be 'Swiftsure Bank', if I'm not mistaken. It's the fairway buoy that marks the entrance to the Juan de Fuca Traffic Separation scheme.

So of course it will pass by my particular Gulf Island in the DARK. Bummer.

I work in the Ironwood shopping complex & is only a stone throw away from Deas Dock. If someone could update it's progress during the day if it goes to Deas Dock I can slide by on break & grab some photos.
Thanks

The SALISH ORCA passed due east of Race Rocks at 0645 this morning. This would likely be the handover from "Seattle Traffic" to "Victoria Traffic". "Seattle Traffic" did, indeed, have two ferries with a name of "SALISH" to handle with for a short while as the WSF SALISH started her day out of Friday Harbor at 0610 this morning. The Pilot Boat PACIFIC SCOUT delivered the ORCA's pilot at 0700 and she's on her way to the Sand Heads.
No luck on quality images from Race Rocks this morning. Too windy and unstable cams. I only got white dots, not worth posting (unless requested). I did get a couple of scenic shots of waves and land under a spectacular full moon.
WELCOME TO CANADA, MV SALISH ORCA!

WELCOME TO CANADA, MV SALISH ORCA!To keep things in perspective on the name thing, Traffic regularly handles multiple ships named "Hanjin ____" and there are many other instances of ships with the same prefix name. It is neat that there are two ferries that have the Salish name (soon to be 4), but not an issue that I can see.

Won't be long until the Orca comes around Turn Point on Stuart Island....at which point I will see her with my own eyes. Should I be embarrassed that I'm kind of excited?

I just saw the Orca off in the very far distance in Saanich! Way too far for my iPhone but quite pleased the timing worked!

I got up early today to make a detour on my way to class and try to get a look at our newest ferry. I'm happy to say that I was able to catch a glimpse of her from Arbutus Ridge in Saanich! I even managed to snag a couple of (albeit very bad) photos of her which I will attempt to post later today. Welcome to Canada MV Salish Orca!!!

It is neat that there are two ferries that have the Salish name (soon to be 4), but not an issue that I can see. Seaspan has vessels with the names "Seaspan Eagle" and "Seaspan Raven". I would think that will become more confusing. Smit also has a tug by the name "SST Salish" also.

THAR SHE BLOWS!!!
Unfortunately, another ship coming from Vancouver has made the Orca hug close to the U.S. side of the border...so not as close a flyby as I was hoping. Still cool.

Some photographic evidence of the Orca's presence in Canada for those of us who aren't lucky enough to have a chance to see her in the next few days. These were taken from Arbutus Ridge in Saanich (or maybe that's still in Victoria) at around 8:30 this morning. I wish I had brought a better lens with me but I was in a hurry this morning so these less than great photos are the best I could get. This is my first attempt at uploading photos to this forum so I apologize if the sizing was done wrong.

Welcome to BC Salish Orca! With that out of the way, here are the results of the Arrival Pool: Since nobody guessed January 11, we will go with the next closest date that didn't go over. With January 15, the winner of the Salish Orca arrival pool is Nick! I will admit that before I started the pool, my original guess was going to be January 12, but I changed it at the last minute thinking that would be too long. Little did I know...

I took a drive by Deas Dock just after 3 this afternoon & got a glimpse of it. Sun was in a bad spot to grab any photos of it. A good place for viewing it is on the Rice Mill road overpass at the north end of the Massey Tunnel. BC Ferries put this news release out today on it's arrival www.bcferries.com/bcferries/faces/attachments?id=1012774

With January 15, the winner of the Salish Orca arrival pool is Nick! I think your guess of Jan 8th is three days under, whereas Nick's guess is four days over. Your guess is the closest, and in my books, 'the winner'. What shall the prize be?
