Not exactly a profound observation, but note that all four Super Class ferries are in service now despite all the out-of-service vessels, three of them at Anacortes, and the Kaleetan at Bremerton.
Every time I see that, I wonder if it's the last time I'll see it.

During the Chimacum's open ship, I got the privilege to speak to several WSF officials. Among other things, I got access to the official layup boards, and permission to post them here. Of course, all standard maintenance schedule disclaimers apply; Information here is subject to change without notice. But, this is what the plans are as of now. Happy reading. Most interesting things here to me: Suquamish indeed retires Hyak, while the Tillikum actually gets engine work and continues onward as the inter-island boat, replaced by the Sealth when in for maintenance. Suquamish gets around, including with Chimacum at Bremerton. Chelan gets quite a bit of time filling in at Fauntleroy, and even the Kittitas gets in the mix there when two Olympics are at Mukilteo. Things are changing!

Whoa. Check out the post in another thread: ferriesbc.proboards.com/post/184803Klahowya retired before the end of the year, with the Tillikum, Salish, and Chelan filling in on inter-island before the Sealth picks it up for next summer, and the Kitsap filling in for the Chetzemoka at Point Defiance probably the strangest things shown!

Funny they should say Tokitae, because that looks more like a Issy class pilothouse to me... If I'm reading the autograph on the photo correctly, it says Kittitas right above J.P. Patches...

... But now, even the dreamers need to admit that it's over. After that, the only people left believing will be those who think the scrapping was a fake event, along with the moon-landings and the Queen of Victoria at Alang. Or perhaps most relevant on this sub-board, the Klickitat at Ensenada.

Whoa. The Tokitae is working Edmonds-Kingston! (And the Yakima is headed for Eagle Harbor.) I did not see that one coming!
Anyone know how well suited it's proving to the route? Are all passenger cabins open?

The Sealth has left Eagle Harbor and appears to be heading towards Seattle. Perhaps these worries were for nothing. Update: It made a hard left, and now appears to be heading due north at full speed. Update X2: Sealth has been making rather large loops, northwest of Colman dock. And they must have been happy with the trials, since it looks like the Sealth is in service toward Bremerton now and the Kitsap is heading for Kingston to spring the Walla Walla for Bainbridge. Now my only question is why the service alert shows the Sealth on Bremerton through the 26th--is it Kitsap going in for work early after the Wenatchee comes back?

MV Hiyu

It looks like the latest maintenance schedule (updated today) shows the Hiyu on Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth next week, with the Sealth shifted up to Bremerton as part of the cascade from the Wenatchee's drydocking. When is the last time the Hiyu was on the triangle?

The Tokitae is showing up on VesselWatch now. The unusual thing is that its three-letter code is currently "WSF".

Nope, she will be ready by the beginning summer schedule. Then, why is the Cathlamet not going into dry dock because the Kitsap is taking her spot in dry dock. Link to maintenance schedule. I can't help but look at that schedule and conclude: This summer, we've effectively traded the Cathlamet and Kaleetan. Is that what was really what the delivery of the Tokitae was supposed to accomplish? (Sure, the boat in the Islands is the Kaleetan instead of the Yakima and the boat on Mukilteo-Clinton is the Tokitae, not the Kaleetan, but in terms of capacity what's basically happened is putting a 124-car vessel in Bremerton instead of a 144-car vessel and the 144-car vessel is at Mukilteo... and before it is noted that the Cathlamet could be interpreted as replacing the Kitsap note that before the Cathlamet moves down it's the 90-car Sealth with the Walla Walla on Bremerton run [one ferry twice as big as the other intentionally, as opposed to an emergency?]... Bremerton patrons seem a bit justified in feeling slighted.) Lance Gleich

Over in the Olympic class thread, it is quoted: "When a newly constructed 144-car ferry is added to the Mukilteo-Clinton route, a 124-car ferry that currently sails on that route, the Cathlamet, will be reassigned to the triangle route, likely replacing the 87-car Klahowya. The ferry shuffle will leave the Vashon route with two 124-car ferries and one 87-car ferry, rather than the current configuration of one one larger boat and two smaller boats." www.vashonbeachcomber.com/news/225113932.htmlI'm a bit surprised that the Cathlamet, with its display on the Olympic, would be chosen to move to Vashon, over the Kittitas. Does anyone have insight into why it might be? Lance Gleich, Toronto ON

And besides the other arguments given, Ivar Haglund would be a more appropriate name for a submarine, not a ferry.

Just so somebody says it, Samish is quite close to Salish, so that may not be a shoo-in.
Tokitae, Cowlitz, and Sammamish may have a chance.

There's lots of fun on Vessel Watch today. Chetzy is practicing at Kingston, and the Tillikum is making a run for the border, heading north from Anacortes...

Based on Vessel Watch, the Chetzy is now practicing docking at Point Defiance... that ought to get our rumor mill going!
