A calm Ruby Lake allows for a near-perfect reflection on the morning of March 11, 2018 Ruby Lake by Michael, on Flickr A Couple more months, I will be out in my Kyack enjoying myself, fishing, the solitude....It is what life is all about.

Why were they using the ramp? They weren't using it on the day I was aboard. As far as I know, the only times that they get used is if and when a ship is using Langdale's old berth, and has a full load. That's a rare thing. But because they never know if they are going to need to use it, they don't have traffic parked on the ramp or beside it. So it's always unused space on the car deck. Or at berth 1 at Departure Bay. I remember when cars used to park on them. I believe all ships with a upper car deck should have them because you just never know. For example what would happen if the upper ramp at Duke Point had a mechanical proplem and could not be used and you are stuck on the upper deck on the Alberni, Inspiration, New West or even the Spirit class on rt 1?

All of our buses do have Cctv and yes it seems odd to me that they would use The older buses but as the driver told me it is a trial run.
So I thought about it, BC Transit may have a few buses with GPS tracking technology to move around different communities rather than having the Community pay for installation on its buses, and having to remove them if the trial is a bust.
BC transit would just move the same units to another area.
I am just relaying what I have heard from a RDN driver.
But, some electric power plug in outlets on the bus would be nice...for our phones.😀 I can easily spend several hours a day total in the bus. About 40 minutes to Nanaimo and up to 50is on route 40 Woodgrove to Downtown then return.

D40lf busses to return to Nanaimo's streets again temporary to test new GPS systems. On my way to Departure Bay ferry terminal last Wednesday I took a second glance in the RDN transit lot where I saw one of the older D40lf's parked. This bus does not have the A/c unit on top and is still in Expo livery which tells me it must be a 8100's series unit. Later on I inquired about this to a off duty RDN transit driver and he told me BC transit is doing a trial run with GPS so you can locate when the next bus is. So....there BAaaack.... TEMPORARY! Related to RDN transit effective immediately advertising will return to RDN on its CNG see article below for newspaper update. www.nanaimobulletin.com/news/rdn-to-re-instate-advertising-on-buses/

Check out the Sched for rt 30 in April and May, Looks like they are running 3 ships on the run with extra sailings. I wonder how on earth they are going to perform this, and still get in time for the refitt of the Coastal Celebration and Inspiration before the Peak Summer Sched.

I have been checking Spirit of BC on Vessel Finder every day for the past few weeks now, Waiting with eager anticipation for when she starts Sea Trials, Which should be REALY REALY Soon since she is schedualed to return to service on May 16,(according to BC Ferries RBI) Just over 2 months from now. Judging the time needed for her long voyage home, and Crew Training, etc she should be begining sea Trials at Anytime.
Does anyone have any "Insider" info or updates that they could share on the dates?

Railfan Ray, The Q of NW's next scheduled sailings begin on March 16, with a scheduled 12 pm and 4 pm from Tsawwassen and 2pm and 6 pm from Swartz Bay. Only 11 days from now. That is unless the Queen of Alberni or another vessel breaks down before that date and she would have to go into service early.
Cheers ☺

At least you got to hear the whistle. I was down at Departure Bay on her arrival and departure this afternoon, sadly no horn, very disappointed 😞. However I got to witness the upper deck been loaded at the same time the lower deck was still unloading. I do not think I have seen this much. I am disappointed because it adds to the whole experience to hear the horn. www.flickr.com/groups/2200669@N21/?added=3

Trying to do some possible Northern trip planning for late Spring or Summer and wondering if the Northern Expedition will be done with her refit and back in service on route 10 BEFORE the 2018 Summer season commences? I am not sure exactly when she will be going in for refit, but it should be soon. When she is taken out of service she usually does not return to service untill the Summer schedule kicks in. Your best bet is to phone BC ferries directly.

It's been along time since I've seen my copy of the Ships of British Columbia but I believe it is mentioned in the back of the book under either the VQ or SSQ that she and her sister operated that run. If someone has a copy of the book maybe they can look it up and confirm. Meanwhile I will try to find my copy...good luck with that. It could be mentioned elsewhere in that book to. Bannerman p.20 does mention the Vesuvius Queen at Ladner, but he also contradicts himself by saying she started out there, after he mentions her service on the Okanagan. The only pictures I've seen of the Ladner route show the Delta Princess. Maybe the Delta Archives could help. Thanks Neil. I am currently in Victoria and will check out the Delta archive when I get a chance. Got a 2 or hour drive home.

If I recall correctly, Vesuvius Queen used to run in Kelowna before the bridge was built. The VQ is the Sister ship to the Delta Princess, AKA Salt Spring Queen. Once the Bridge was built the vessel was transported to the Coast and I heard somewhere that it too did a stint with the Delta Princess on the Woodwards Landing run. (The Ships of BC?) mentioned it, or it was in another book. There's no evidence I can see that the Vesuvius Queen ever served at the Ladner crossing. On the other hand, the Okanagan bridge was opened in '58, and she didn't serve as the first Bowen Queen until '63, so I guess it's possible.
