Wow, only one came out today! Usually there is like 6 or 7 of them! (mostly Queen Charlottes, Inside Passage). I have stopped reading the one's that say "Inside Passage fall, winter, spring" or "Queen Charlotte Islands" because usually they are just weather delays!

Sailing Cancellation Posted January 07, 2007
Due to a combination of high winds and reduced bow thruster capacity, the Spirit of British Columbia sailing from Tsawwassen at 7:00 a.m. and from Swartz Bay at 9:00 a.m. is cancelled.
The Spirit of Vancouver Island will sail at 7:00 a.m. from Swartz Bay and at 9:00 a.m. from Tsawwassen.
An update on the status of the 11:00 a.m. scheduled departure of the Spirit of British Columbia from Tsawwassen will be provided later in the morning.
BC Ferries regrets any inconvenience this sailing cancellation may cause our customers.
Good thing the SOBC is scheduled to go out for refit tommorrow!

I've never seen so-little info given for a cancellation of service...

Consider the timing & the circumstance, I guess.
I remember some pretty crypic and brief service notices after a pleasure-craft / ferry collision off of Swartz Bay.

I'm wondering what reason such a company has for withholding such information, especially when no one was injured, until the media do their work?

....consider the time of day and circumstance. Also their explicit agenda to misinform and mistreat yeah, that was sarcasm. I just think the fact that it was after hours had something to do with it, I suppose.

the southern gulf islands schedule as how they are going to test above has been discussed before as a possibility. but my understanding was that the different groups that help with discussions on new schedules were against it

...the different groups that help with discussions on new schedules were against it I don't know if I've seen eggshells walked on so lightly - I dare you to define how you mean ' help' and what effect, if any, this would have on BCFS's final decision in this matter.

...the different groups that help with discussions on new schedules were against it I don't know if I've seen eggshells walked on so lightly - I dare you to define how you mean ' help' and what effect, if any, this would have on BCFS's final decision in this matter. there is an advisory committee in the southern gulf islands that is made up of a representative from each of the islands serviced by bc ferries. they have in the past had some of there ideas used and have also helped overturn the ideas of the company. both before and after "privatization". they wanted to try out this new schedule last year but there had not been any discussion with the committee. when this new schedule hit the news last year alot of people were against it becasue they felt that it was to early in the afternoon for people that have to come from vancouver or the valley to catch a ferry to either mayne or pender

Skeena Queen Refit: February 4th Posted January 29, 2007 Swartz Bay - Fulford Harbour
On Sunday, February 4th, the Skeena Queen will be removed from service to undergo scheduled maintenance. This work is expected to take approximately one week and will involve maintenance to the hull of the vessel.
During this time, BC Ferries is pleased to supply the Bowen Queen as the replacement vessel for sailings between Swartz Bay and Fulford Harbour.
Passengers are advised that the Bowen Queen is a smaller vessel and overloads may occur. Where possible, passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider car pooling, traveling outside of peak sailing times, and/or arriving at the terminal early for their desired sailing.
Commercial customers are advised that vehicles over 10 tonnes GVW (10,000 kg) are restricted to centre lane loading only on the Bowen Queen. As a result, available commercial vehicle capacity will also be reduced while the Bowen Queen is in service.
All sailings will remain as scheduled between Swartz Bay and Fulford Harbour.
BC Ferries looks forward to returning the Skeena Queen back to service following this scheduled maintenance.

hmm. Thats quite interesting! I am suprised though that they are "pleased" to put in the Bowen Queen as a replacement! Personally I'm glad the ol' gal is being put into some regular work! Makes it seem like she's worth having around!

...just like WSF would be "Pleased" to offer a Issaquah on the Bremerton Run.
BC Ferries would be "Pleased" to offer the Mill Bay replacing the Spirit of Vancouver Island.
BC Ferries would be "Pleased" to offer the Queen of Esquimalt replacing Dane's favourite ferry,
BC Ferries would be "Pleased" to offer all Ferries of British Columbia forum members a 80% discount on all routes ESPESCIALLY the Inside Passage.
