In its current configuration, no it wouldn't work. The ferry would have to be retro fitted to load from the bow...maybe ala the Chinook and lop off the front? But how feasible is that for a vessel rapidly approaching 50 years old? People seem to be stuck to the idea of having to use the current setup at the Port Angeles terminal and that because of that the Coho would have to load via the bow at Sidney, but it hasn't been mentioned that Port Angeles is also looking to redevelop their waterfront, leaving open the possibility to have side-loading at Port Angeles and allowing for stern-to docking at Sidney, though we all here seem to realize how impractical such a route would be unless they're trying to sound their own death knell. I do find it strange, however, that a day or two ago I found numerous articles through google's news search about the redevelopment of Port Angeles' waterfront and yet now I can not find a single one of those stories on the exact same page / search. "Victoria Navigation"? What is this, a running gag? Does reporting on ferry matters somehow preclude spending time researching basic facts as some sort of twisted inside joke among local news outlets? Unless Clipper has changed their name to Victoria Navigation without so much as one link to that name found on google except for this story, then I'm starting to get very tired of local news media's disrespect for our ferries. www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=victoria-navigation&meta= www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=victoria-navigation-inc&meta=

Here's something I found in a business article from the internet. It's from 2006, but there are 2 paragraphs of possible member interest near the bottom of the article, which I've quoted below: ============================ www.businessedge.ca/article.cfm/newsID/12023.cfmMeanwhile, a Canadian-Swedish group calling itself Cascade is looking to operate a passenger-only route between downtown Vancouver and Sidney, and a Seattle-Sidney run, among other routes.
The downtown Vancouver-Sidney run could use the Washington State Ferries terminal, now used for a route between the Anacortes, Wash., terminal and Sidney.============

Here's my take on that story. One night, cascade is in a bar in London. He hears a group of Swedes talking about ferries, and since he likes to read the trade mags on line, he knows a thing or two about the maritime industry. He sidles on over and joins in their conversation. Tells them he's a 'player' in the ferry industry, and he's got some contacts in Canada, and knows of some great opportunities that aren't being filled because BC Ferries has got a monopoly and doesn't think outside the box. The Swedes have had a few, cascade's been talking a good line, and before you know it, they've put together a plan for a couple of big ventures. Cascade says he'll talk to his people on the west coast; the Swedes promise to get back to him the next day. Cascade goes home, calls this business magazine he's heard about in Toronto, and plants the story. Next day, the Swedes do some checking around, find out that cascade actually works at a fish 'n' chip shop near Paddington Station, and the venture comes to an abrupt end. And now I'll await the call from cascade... err.. 'old tar's' lawyers.

Hmm, very interesting; Could this be why Cascade dropped off the radar screen several months ago?

BC Ferries released information on 6 different FOI requests (on Jan.14 2011) concerning the Sidney terminal and leases. The relevant released documents are here: - A copy of the MOU between BC Ferries and the Town of Sidney, signed in regard to the company taking over the running of the ferry terminal in that town. foi.bcferries.com/2010-099-memorandumofunderstanding.pdf- see page 4 for some interesting business planning re the potential loss of the Sidney-Anacortes route. foi.bcferries.com/2010-102-records.pdf- In spring of 2008, BC Ferries signed a lease with Washington State Ferries governing WSF's use of the ferry terminal in Sidney. foi.bcferries.com/2010-106-recordlicense.pdffoi.bcferries.com/2010-106-licenseagreesup.pdf- In 2007, BC Ferries announced that it had signed a lease agreement with the Town of Sidney allowing the company to manage the ferry terminal in that town. Request for any and all records that would indicate what repairs and improvements BCFS made to the terminal after assuming its management role, and what the cost of those repairs or improvements was.
