That does look quite sharp. Simplicity can be very attractive.

BC Ferries website is currently down and is redirecting to a domain name registering site. Anyone want to purchase bcferries.com? ;D

Instead of the .com use .bc.ca and it works fine.

Glitch sends BC Ferries users to wrong websiteUpdated: Tue Sep. 01 2009 10:15:28
Darcy Wintonyk, ctvbc.caPeople trying to access the BC Ferries website in the past 24 hours have found themselves being sent to a completely different site with the same web address. A technical glitch during a software upgrade for the corporation caused the system to start using a different IP address Monday, sending customers to another website, according to spokesperson Deborah Marshall.

It appears as if my website has moved up in the world. If you search for "queen of Chilliwack" in Google my website seems to outrank the BCFerries page for her.
COOL!

Something that's not on their website... assured loading.
The service notice for today's SoVI problems mentions that assured loading tickets will not be honored on route one. I've heard of assured loading, and I believe it means sort of perpetual reservations, but I don't know the particulars or the cost. As I said, nothing on their site, that I can see.
Anybody?

Here's the web-page. www.bcferries.com/experience_card/alts.htmlIt was tough to find. It's hidden in with the "Experience/Coast Card" page. It's very expensive: $125 for a regular vehicle & driver. And you need to purchase 10 at a time. - It's price-point is set to actually discourage use. So it's only for people that really, really, really want/need it.

Assured Loading Tickets (ALTs) were brought out a number of years ago as a "premium" service. Basically, no matter what the loading conditions are, you can roll up to the ticket booth up to 20 minutes prior to departure and be guaranteed a spot on the sailing. They are sold in packs of 10 only, and I believe that will run you $1250 under the current price scheme. This is the first time I've ever heard of them not being honoured. It's interesting, because this is the type of situation that people buy them for.
For what it's worth, BCF has admitted that they are more trouble than they're worth, considering the problems with loading they cause. It has happened before where people with reservations get bumped to the next sailing because so many ALTs show up.

Thanks, Nick & Mr. Horn. Obviously I wasn't looking closely enough at their website. Even with 'assured loading', at $125 a pop, you are warned: BC Ferries reserves the right to limit the number of ALT spaces per sailing. So you've got reservations, which give you a leg up on the regular rabble, and you've got assured reservations, which still aren't truly guaranteed; but maybe they need a really, really ironclad reservation- like the promise to give up your firstborn, or something- so that you'll never miss the boat. 'Assured', like everything else in life, is relative, I guess.
