Tonight I was talking to a former mill employee of the Woodfibre Mill. He's told me that the demolition of the mill will commence in about 4-6 weeks, and some sort of Ferry service will be brought back. Once the land is cleared, it will then be subdivided into about 120 lots for homes. Of course, there will need to be some sort of Ferry service to the people who would live over there. Still unsure of which vessel would be used though. I guess we'll find out in the next month or so. This means that the community and village of Woodfibre will be brought back to life.
Another thing I found interesting, was that the floating dolphins for the Ferry dock at Woodfibre sank, due to the last few storms that came through several weeks ago.
On the topic of sinkings.....people have been taking small boats over to Woodfibre, to steal things like tools, cooper wire, basically anything with value, and hauling it back in the boats. The thing is, they'd over load the boat, and the boat would sink. So there's a couple of boats sitting on the bottom, near the piers over there.

Very Good that they're putting the area to use. I Guess they're gonna have to replace those docks someday. Pretty stupid to leave everything there, but it's Even More Stupid to Capsize their boats

If there is a ferry used for the possible subdivision residents, then I wonder how it would be run.....re ownership / operations.
Presumably, if the subdivision was say a Strata community, then the strata would possibly lease the ship & berth, and operate the ferry.
I can't see any reason for any Governmental agency to operate the ferry....so this might be a chance for pure userpay. Perhaps the ultimate in a gated-community, where to get in, you first have to be "buzzed" onto the ferry !

If I was to be a resident there I would fight for Gov't subsidized service. This is just a modern spin on how most Ferry services operate. Bowen Island gets a ferry, why shouldn't Woodfibre? Kuper doesn't even allow non-residents onto the Island and we pay for that ferry!

I wonder how the system works now, for a community like Woodfibre to get their ferry-route added to the BCFS Coastal Ferry Agreement.
I suppose that they'd have to make application to the ferry commissioner? And I suppose that funding for the route would need to flow from the Province to BCFS....which I suppose would be an amendment to the Ferry Agreement.

From what I have heard, just a few months ago, there is approval for a road to be blasted from Woodfibre to Squamish, and apparently if what I heard is true, the Squamish nation is involved in some regards.

Could this mean a potential road to the Sunshine Coast?

Is Woodfibre considered as part of the Sunshine Coast, or not? It seems like it could be, but it's so far away, closer to Squamish than anything...

They need to bring the Garibaldi II back. it was one of the finer boats Ive been on. the Volvo Engines just purred, and they were quiet, even when in the engine room
