Too funny. I just looked at the website, noted it was Ireland, cursed Tempest for posting in the wrong spot, moved the post to the "ferries of the world" section of the forum. Then, I looked at John H's reply, and was puzzled at the seeming subtlety of his simple response. I honest thought John H. was talking about a trip to Ireland. Then I remembered that member Tempest is an advocate for the Nanaimo fast ferry idea, and then it finally clicked. So back I move the post to the BC ferry section of the forum. Yes, that new Aran ferry is the former "Angel of Freedom". And we all remember that "Angel of Freedom" very well, don't we? Lesson: Tempest lives in a teapot, and understands subtlety. Sorry for doubting you, sir.

Now, THAT'S funny! Technically, you are right though. I should have posted in an international section. Funny how small the world is...
Had dinner with a friend from Parksville the other night and he told me all about his recent trip to Hawaii where he sailed on the "Rachel Marie" ex Puget Sound fame. Had a really nice chat with the Captain, who claimed to have operated the "Angel of Freedom" down in the Philipinnes. Small world.
Cheers!

It appears the "Aran Princess" ex HarbourLynx continues to live a disappointing and less than fruitful life. After following the ship to Europe, it appears she may still be sitting in Fjellstrand's yard in Norway. One can only summise that the way the deal went down, is that Fjellstrand bought the ship, arranged for it's transport and then committed to bring her up to classification society rules and she was then to be delivered to her new owners Aran Direct.
Aran Direct took a terrible hit last year and appear never to have taken delivery of their new ship. While she was to be on the run by summer '08, she never materialized. In September '08, a full month ahead of schedule, Aran Direct suspended sailings for the season citing high fuel costs and difficulty competing with the subsidized Aran Island Ferries as their reason for curtailing operations so early. They advised they'd be back for the spring of /09.
In the late fall of '08, there were attempts by Aran Direct to raise funds through new investment. It appeared they were offering ownership stakes in the 'Aran Princess'. They also put up for sale their vessel 'Clan Eagle', otherwise known by locals as the 'Clan Empty', due to extremely low ridership on their existing runs, but the vessel remains for sale today. Nobody has seen hide nor hair of, or at least info seems very hard to get, on the 'Aran Princess'.
For about a week recently, the Aran Direct website went off the air. It appears to have re-emerged as Aran Link. When entering Aran Direct, it comes up rebranded as Aran Link, yet when entering Aran Link, you simply get a splash page saying "Coming Soon".
It appears that the young upstart Aran Direct may well be re-organizing and we may well yet see the 'Aran Princess' emerge someday soon. I will stay tuned.

That looks very similar to the Victoria Clipper IV. I didn't know she had any sister ships.

What route does the Aran Princess operate on? What company does she operate for?
