So looks like it won't be enclosed. Probably means that the Chilliwack will be the winter relief boat from now on.

Actually the Tenaka and the Queen of the Islands have crossed the Strait when they were with the Ministry of Highways and the Queen of the Islands did it in the winter

The Tenaka is designed for it (raise bow)... and the Queen of the Islands probably had enough freeboard... and it's deck was more "enclosed" than the Queen of Capilano. You'll notice in any photos that the "walls" at the front of the Queen of the Islands were probably over 6 feet high... unlike the Capilano where a tall person can see over the side.

Yeah you got a point there maybe place it high out of the water or something who knows this new ship could run year round on Saltery Bay but they should review the Design if it does any other routes that go out into the straitbut whatever happens they'll need to have a replacement ferry for routes

Yes the Queen of the Islands does have high walls and used to have a door at the front...not anymore but it's not a ferry anymore and only travels in summer so it's fine.

Still don't understand why WMG has not released any pictures of the Vessel. Nor have we seen any pictures of the Super C's either. Why not? Why hasn't the local press got a hold of this - lack of info and made more of an issue? A picture would sell a lot of newspapers - get good coverage on the TV news programs - and as for talk shows - well they would be flooded with comments. So what is wrong here?? There is a lot out on the basic design of the Super C, there is even videos of the hull design and superstructure with a link from somewhere in this forum. Why would they release the design? They didn't with the Spirits until they were building... even then they didn't go into huge detail. The Intermediate isn't done yet, so why would you release something you're going to change? To recieve unjustified criticism? It just doesn't seem like a neccessity. Other companies may do it, but many others don't.

I remember when they released the info about the "new" pacificats that they were about to build in 96 or 97. I remember seeing a picture of it supposebly going through Howe Sound (drawn of course) on a wall of the Queen of Alberni. I still have a few posters on the fastcats in one of my binders somewhere. So I'm sure they'll post the pictures of the New Ferries on the walls of the original ferries.

Looking Closer at the Design for the Ferry It looks like the Hull is slightly out of the water

While reducing the consumption on the new engines, they should consider making the engines handle bio-diesel better....

Biodiesel up to 20% doesn't ussually require a chnage in the internals of an engine.

So I take it you are against keeping jobs in BC Cascade...? Germany, I make an exception, because the deal they are getting is amazing...apparently the shipyard will replace the ships if they don't work or something, didn't hear the whole story around that.

Has anyone ever been on the Queen of Capilano in any sort of rough weather or waves? It can get quite unstable in my opinion.

I dont think shes ever ran in rough water. The routes that shes ran on dont get rough(Route 7 and 8).

No, not too rough. But I've been on the Capilano in windy weather (for Howe Sound) and even when a C-class passes her.. and she rolls pretty good. You can really feel it up in the passenger lounge anyways.

Yes, I know this is a really old thread. But I always like digging through the old stuff to see if there's an appropriate place for something... and this article described an interesting concept. I've been looking through a lot of my old clippings and material from BC Ferries, and it's apparent how much they've cut back on fleet renewal over the last 10-20 years. So many planned projects just didn't happen. This was one. Perhaps this has been posted in the past- it's from the Employee Update.

a capacity of 140... lol, I can imagine how that would do on Filburg Festival day - the only day of the year where there's a sailing wait for the Burnaby.

Neil, that's a good find. It's interesting what they say about the Queen of Sidney on the Comox run not being used to capacity. I wonder if the numbers would be much different today but it didn't seem like the Tsawwassen was ever filled out on any of her sailings during the latest Powell River trip.

Could that be turned into a 50 car vessel? That would be cool for the minor routes designed for one ended ships.
