So, will either Scott or Ferry Nut Seattle please explain the website for the SoniaWatch. Is it a private "hidden" part of BC Ferries website, or is it somewhere on the main website where we haven't found it yet. Thanks guys.

Now you guys wrecked it for me. The Soniawatch page worked perfectly find for me, until tonight. I had even checked it this morning, but they still showed it sitting at Tenerife. Now, I see it back to the way it was a few days ago, sailing in the Meditteranean.

At this current time there is no direct link to the 'Sonia Tracker' from any of the navigation pages that is on the public BCFS site... The link (as well as the information) was (is) provided from Captain Trafford Taylor, and was released as an Employee Bulletin...

If you get an image that is clearly old, try hitting the "Refresh" button on your browser... once in a while WSF's vessel watch and ferrycams will get stuck too.
Or delete your Temporary INternet Files, and the computer will have no choice but to come up with a fresh image.

Sunday greetings! Here are pics of the dock the SONIA used yesterday afternoon, Tenerife time. All cleared, except for a tug and a couple of freighters. Sure was a fun day for me to watch the neat Tenerife maritime activities through their webcams! Many thanks, Tenerife! Very kind of you for hosting the MV SONIA amongst all the cruise ships, ferries, and freighers in your busy harbour. Now to the next available webcam viewing opportunity when the SONIA gets in range of one. Have a great day! :-)

MONDAY GREETINGS TO ALL:
PLEASE GO AHEAD AND SAVE ALL THE PICS I PRESENTED TO YOU ON THIS PAGE OF THE SONIA IN TENERIFE ONTO YOUR HARD DRIVE (OR WHICHEVER STORAGE MEDIA YOU USE).
Create a folder named: SONIA_TENERIFE. Put your pointer over each image, right click on the image, then "Save Picture As...", and save them into the named folder above. No need to rename my images (unless you want to).
This way, you ferry fans can have these pics as keepsakes forever.
I will keep these up for as long as I can, limited time though.
Have a great week, folks!

It's not a public page. It is in "About BC Ferries" "Our Fleet" but you won't find a public link there. It was sent to employees through their itranet.

So, by doing the math, (3061 nm @ 18.3 knots = 167 hours or 13.91 days) we should expect to see her at Panama around Saturday the 9th?
Does this sound right?
On another thought, would she have enough fuel caring capacity for such a long journey or would they have installed portable tanks on the vehicle deck for extra capacity?

GETTING A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE PACIFIC EACH DAY! AN EARLY CARIBBEAN SEA WELCOME TO THE MV SONIA AND HER CREW. ENJOY THE WARMTH WHILE IT LASTS. Just wishing I was aboard one of the cruise ships on the Caribbean and seeing the folks on deck looking at the SONIA and her BCF markings (they don't see this every day there)! By the way, more BC ferries are due to be sighted on these waters in the near future as BCF is getting three new double enders from Germany as well as a new northern vessel. From BCF 12-01-2006 1147PST: Port of Origin: Piraeus, Greece Port of Call: Panama (estimated Distance to Panama = 1,300 nm) Final Destination: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Position: Lat 19 deg 58’ 19” N / Lon 60 deg 08’ 29” W Course: 262 degrees Speed: 17.2 knots Weather: Fine Notes: ETA to Cristobal, Panama is approximately 1800 hrs December 4. All is well on board the ship. Data Updated: 11:47 am, December 1, 2006 Our next scheduled update will be posted by 12:00 pm, December 4, 2006

If you have a gps, you can plug into it the incrementing Sonia positions, and the gps can tell you how far away the ship is (as the crow flies).

Excerpt from a Times Colonist story today re arrival and passage through the canal. "It will arrive at the Panama Canal about 3 p.m. tomorrow (Dec 4) and will then have to wait two days before passing through the locks. To watch it in the canal click on: www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.htmljlavoie@tc.canwest.com (I just fixed the link so it should now work!) - John
