Perhaps I’m having auditory hallucinations, but I’m sitting here in my shop overlooking departure bay, and I swear I just herd over my scanner (monitoring BCF ship to terminal) “Kuper away with 23”.
It was a very week signal, so Chemainus would be about right..
Can anyone confirm this?
I might just have to take a spin down tomorrow to confirm!

i was told today the kuper is stil at allied shipyard and have not painted bc ferries on the side yet. far as i know she is schuled to be in service in march 2007. so in next few month she wil most likely be on sea trials.

Everything is painted except the name. She was still in North Van as of about 5.45 pm tonight.

Yeah I saw the Kuper the Friday before Christmas when I was in Vancouver and she was painted then. That is a nice pic Kevin has of her!

She does look nice, but I think the stripe could have been positioned a bit lower so it go from one end to the other, Not as low as the Quinsam though, at the end where it starts to curve down. Still looks nice though

that would have been a rare load, they list capacity @ 25, but the Kulleet and klatawa rarely ever carry more than 21/22

i doubt they will require that much in the way of training, from what i can see, she is not that much different from the klitsa and kahloke, and probably a day trip to vancouver is all the AJ and Capt Bill would need to get aquainted with her. i did hear something about her going out already on sea trials, but i cannot confirm anything

I believe she has already been out for sea trials. The pictures on this site (Kevin Stapletons) is proof that she's been out and about, as you can see her being towed out of the shipyard facilities, into the burrard inlet. These were dated December 21, 2006. www.pbase.com/kstapleton/kuper

are you trying to say that they are too pu$$y to drive a RAD equipped ferry out without a tugboat? i think they were more testing whether or not the vessel would track straight. if you look closely, the exhaust for the Engines is already there, and in one photo, i almost guarantee i can see a RAD unit installed, i would think that they are probably only waiting on some paint and a few missing pieces (bigger generator?)

I think it's more likely that the vessel was simply being assisted away from the shipyard with a tug... it's common practice, no matter how maneuverable a vessel is. It seems that shipyards don't like their docks and whatnot beaten up... to say nothing of when approaching a drydock for entry, it's common to use a tug because the incoming vessel's propwash can and will disturb the keel blocks.

Bill McKay will be skippering the Kuper?

1) AJ is the chief Engineer on the Thetis -> Kuper Run
2) No, Coincidence, Capt Bill Is the Senior Captain on the Thetis Run. i cant recall his last name right now.

As for the leaving the yard with a tug....
you would wnat the same thing with an unproven set of engines drives and generators. just imagine an queen of oak bay manouver or worse!
