The Quinsam's Name was just using the old Style of naming. I don't know Why they put Kuper in all capitals though. Although the Quinsam's name is all capitals, just smaller text. Maybe since the Name is so small it needs to stand out more

I should have thought of that! However, I think the Quinsam's name looks good because it isn't in the italic text. The Kuper's is, and is capitalized.

why do they need a fire cannon? My assumption that it's a new requirement with Transport Canada. The Major Ferries of the fleet are equipped with sprinklers on the ceiling, in case a fire broke out on the car deck(sprinklers are also on the passenger decks, but were on the topic of car decks....). I'd assume the cannon would serve the same puposes, ie: in case of a car fire, a crew member could operate the cannon manually, to put the fire out. It could even enable the vessel to respond to a vessel, or marine stucture fire, until the Fire Department arrived. Also, if the crew is having a hard time dealing with the heat on a hot summer day, they could fire the water straight up in the air, and a nice mist would blanket the entire Ferry.

Yeah, i thought a fire hose would be fine, but i dont see fire cannons being a major upgrade to most of the fleet. and i think the wheelhouse just looks.....UGLY

Like I said in the past, I overheard from a crew member one time saying that the fire hoses are to water down the deck. Why, I don't know.

The cannons also make good anti-pirate protection. Although I don't think there are too many of those in BC waters hehe. I can imagine what comments that will generate ;D

What - like the log stealing baron Relic from that long lost CBC show "The Beachcombers" ;D Of course, it might be to keep the seals and sea lions off the deck.

What - like the log stealing baron Relic from that long lost CBC show "The Beachcombers" Ah, the good ol' Beachcombers - longest running Canadian TV drama and shot in our own Gibsons and around the Sunshine Coast - that my dad was a camera man for during the 1970s for quite some time... ...And a show that brought my parents many fond memories of travelling to and from the big city of Vancouver aboard the venerable Langdale QueenFrom which they have stories of their lunch dancing accross the table because of the vibrations Cheers, Graham

Good News, The mv Kuper is now at her knew home. She was at Iona at 3:58pm and entered Polier Pass around 5pm and arrived at either Chemainus or Thetis ISland before 7pm. Not sure which port she is tied up at. She will not enter service right away as crews need to be trained over the next few days. Source: Victoria Traffic, ch 11 156.550mhz Jan, 16,2007

I'll be in the Cowichan Valley within the next few weeks, so I'll be taking a trip on the Kuper for sure then......Anyone else wanting to come is welcome, and I don't mind picking anyone up at a Nanaimo Ferry terminal to go either....

Me Scott and Graham are meeting up today at Chemainus to see if we can see where she is. We MIGHT take a trip over to Thetis if she is anywhere around there. But yeah I would be interested in actually taking a trip on her too in the next few weeks when she enters service too.

Well I guess that I'm the first one back. Karl and Scott took the 5:45pm sailing back from Tsawwassen to Duke Point aboard the Queen of Coquitlam, after all three of us had gone to Chemainus to see if the Kuper was around and taken the 12:45 sailing of the Queen of New Westminster to Tsawwassen. We were quite surprised and happy to see the perfect photo-op of the Kuper moored at the public dock. We, of course, had to stay to see the Klitsa arrive and eventually depart for Kuper Island with 1 vehicle and 2 foot passengers. More to come very soon
