Wow... it's almost like it's a new ferry?

I'd only assume that the Captain, or whoever steers the Ferry, is still trying to get used to docking the Ferry. (S)he would still be getting used to the handling of the Ferry, especially seeming they're not sitting on one side of the Ferry anymore. Give them a few days, and she'll be on schedule.

cascade, a bit of logic on the three questions is necessary along with patience. It's not like we are on the board 24/7/365

Is this 'news', or has the Kuper been owned by this company for some time? The Transport Canada registry has no record of acquiry dates, and I can't get any information by googling Pacific Marine Leasing, other than that there is one firm listed in Wrangell AK. with ten employees, and one in Arlington WA. with three. The Pacific Marine Leasing on the TC registry site has the same address as BC Ferries in Victoria.
BC Ferries has sold vessels and leased them back before.
Yes, it is interesting that the Kuper is said to be 'new', as of 2006. I guess there is a point at which you alter the vessel enough and add enough steel that you can claim a new boat.

I've always maintained that most of these lists are inaccurate anyways. Looking thru the information on both, there is a lot of mis-classification, or the data is just input wrong. In any case, that is more nit-picking, than finding out who the true owner of the vessel is. I would be interested to see if this is the case with any other BCFerries, or if the Kuper is the only one.

This is also common in the airline world not just shipping. Airlines will buy aircraft and then sell them to a leasing company. They will outright lease other aircraft. They do it for tax purposes, cashflow and depreciation. Flug or other beancounters on here will be able to comment on the benefits .

BC Ferries did that lease thing with the "V"'s when they were new. On the "V"'s there was a plaque that stated the owner and leased by BC Ferries. This was located near the plaques that stated where and when the vessel was built.

Was the Kuper ever BC Ferries'? if it wasn't that is in line with the financing for many vessels in the fleet.
Interestingly, very few ships are listed as excursion on the TC website, I think only one or two BC Ferries in total.

Many of our customers build stores, then sell them to a real estate investment company, and lease them back. This way, tax-wise, they can claim all the leasing, and not have to deal with capital gains down the road.

Interestingly, very few ships are listed as excursion on the TC website, I think only one or two BC Ferries in total. This is one of the things that I meant when I said that information was incorrect or omitted. The Kuper is obviously mis-classed. She is on regular scheduled service, and should correctly be listed as a RO/RO ferry vehicle/pax. She is only but one example of an incorrect listing. Many others have information omitted that should be included. Feel free to click on the MODIFY link and take a look at the options that are included there on the CTA website. You can actually SUBMIT changes, but they will call the owner of the ship to see if they are authorized/etc. Also search all of the BCFerries and take a look at the huge discrepancy in weight/displacement between Coquitlam and any of her sisters.... I used this search on the CTA site for my comparison: forms.cta-otc.gc.ca/CVIS/SearchList_E.cfm?ShipName=&ShipNum=&Owner=&Operator=British%20Columbia*&GovtOwnership=0&ShipUsage=0&ServiceArea=0&Mode=SSimilar discrepancies exist at the TC website, but the CTA one seems easier to search and tinker around with.
