Very very possible that they could be added later to allow a little over 400 cars onto the ship. But only if they really need it they'd add them. Besides, no platform ramps = Faster loading time.

The upper deck clearance is apparently 2.9 metres - head room enough for a lot of recreational type vehicles. That should mean more than enough room for very high clearance vehicles on the main car deck, and room probably for platforms. Seems to me that putting partial platforms on the lower deck should be quite possible, and would be able to increase capacity to about 450 AEQ. So why not install them now? Perhaps they want to keep loading times manageable. On route 1, however, these vessels should be able to make the crossing in one hour and 25 minutes meaning 35 minutes available for unloading/loading.

you can add as much vehicle space as you want but you still need passenger space and the ability to evacuate all of these people in the event of an emergency.

So, I take it this would make these vessels very suitable for Route 30, as opposed to the current C Class (not including the Alberni of course)?

Plans for all three Super-C's are located here. ** I appologize for the size, but that is as large as I can make it using my scanner....

Oh-my Scott, this is quite the find. Thank you very much for taking the time to scan and upload this, and the info for Departure Bay; together they answer many of the questions floating around.

Thanks a lot Scott. Between the plans and the video you get a good idea what they will be like.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon on Discovery HD, "Destroyer: Forged in Steel". About the building of an American warship, but probably the same principle in fitting hull sections. Fascinating watching the incredible precision in fitting such huge sections of a ship together.

The program I had mentioned about even submarines being built using the modular method is about the Virginia. It was on here last night on the National Geographic Channel but has also been on Discovery. I noticed it after the fact or would have posted it.

Thanks for posting those excellent articles.
Here's a quote, for discussion, re the 3 Super-C's:
"They will be identical except for the names and the food service. The Renaissance and the Inspiration, which will go on the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route, will have two coffee bars and a cafeteria. The Celebration, destined for the Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen route, will have a buffet in place of one of the coffee bars."
Question: Why does the Tsawwassen-Swartz route get a buffet, and not the Horseshoe-Departure route?? The routes are somewhat identical in time, so voyage-time is not a factor.
Is the demographic of the typical Route-1 traveller that different from a Route-2 traveller?
Any ideas/comments re this?

BC Ferries did a study of demographics on Rte 2 and decided it would not be successful due to the nature of travel. I can't really dispute that - being a frequent traveller of Rte 2 the cafeteria service seems to suffice and it's not quite the "money" crowd you see on Rte 1. Moreover there is less touristas!

Delivery Voyages
After reading the Victoria Times Colonist, it appears Flensburger has contracted the Dutch company Redwise Maritime Services to sail the Super C's out to British Columbia. Four BCF employees will join the crew for those voyages. Whether it be rough Atlantic weather, or rollers off the Oregon coast, mother nature should provide a large degree of sphincter factor for the deliveries. (More ballast please)

For the Rennaisance Renaissance it shouldn't be a problem. since it's near the end of the summer she'll be delivered. the Inspiration and Celebration could see some pretty rough weather though. EDIT: Pretty good article though. (Moderator: edited to correct the spelling of the ship's name. It's correct in the thread-header, and it's on spell-check, so my tolerance is low, and I've decided to be picky.. ..)

Very Interesting.
Looking a little closer at the pictures, I see signs on the ceiling saying, "To Vehicle Decks 4, 3, and 2". So I guess there is going to be galley decks?

That or they skinned the model with a picture of an existing sign.

Funny, they have done an about face on this issue. I know someone who works on Route 2 and she said that the biggest complaint is that there is no buffet service. In the summer the complaints on this matter increase ten-fold.
