Today's pic shows the one end where there are some modules missing. The Times Colonist article said the deckhouses would be installed by crane outside and are being delivered from a Polish shipyard.
As well the Module Plans have been updated for both the Renaissance and Inspiration. For the Inspiration a substantial amount of the steel has been cut with many modules assembled. The really make fast progress at this yard!

BC Ferries did a study of demographics on Rte 2 and decided it would not be successful due to the nature of travel. I can't really dispute that - being a frequent traveller of Rte 2 the cafeteria service seems to suffice and it's not quite the "money" crowd you see on Rte 1. Moreover there is less touristas! Funny, they have done an about face on this issue. I know someone who works on Route 2 and she said that the biggest complaint is that there is no buffet service. In the summer the complaints on this matter increase ten-fold. I don't doubt people complained, however to the best of my knowledge in the last 15 years of so BC Ferries, whether public or private has had no plans for buffet service. If the money hungry BCFS isn't doing it it's a clear sign they don't think there's any revenue to be had.

re the Buffet issue:
So, assuming that route 2 & 1 are different markets re the demand for buffet service, why is this the case?
How different is the typical Route 1 passenger from a Route-2 passenger?
Is the Gov't travel (to / from Victoria on Route 1) a big factor in a more "high end" crowd?
Is this an indication that Nanaimo-north on the Island is more blue-collar, and less likely to want a buffet (more of a burger & fries crowd?).

Of course no one wants buffets on Route 2...because you usually have to wait so long, you'd be better off getting food on land. Trolls would be an obvious competitor to the buffet service, as they are both on the same "notch" in terms of service. No Trolls at Tsawwassen, though.

re: buffets
I posted some capacity figures for all the routes a while back, and year round, the average route 1 sailing is 80% full for vehicles, and route 2 is 65%. Maybe it's no more complicated than that; more customers, more viable food options.
Gee. Another thread gravitating to food. Are you people always hungry, or what?

re Buffet:
For me, the 2 times that I sailed on Queen of the North, I avoided the buffet. My reasoning was that the buffet would just be an excuse / opportunity to overeat, and that's not what my body needed on a travelling vacation.

The buffet on the QoftN was included in the prepaid meal package that was available. It was a good deal actually. Breakfast was quite good. Lunch and dinner had some type of roast that was carved such as ham, beef or turkey. At the time I was on a starch reduced diet and it was the easiest way to pick and choose. I don't typcially have the buffet on route 1. I prefer to have my White Spot and get outside or another good vantage point. As I said somewhere in another thread, when I was a kid we used to sit in the dining room on upper deck of the ferry but this was most often out of HSB. The window seat was great. The buffet would require a certain level of customers to be worthwhile or I imagine spoilage would be an issue.

Anyways, here's today's update: Comparing the photos to the module plan I'm left wondering how they fit the modules that have not been erected yet under the ones that have been. It's that or some of the pieces that are supposedly already erected are parts of a larger section yet to set in place. A little confused.

Unless there are small parts that are still missing and they then consider it not completed I don't see how major sections could still be installed. I believe the blue in the middle of the decks below the car deck are the engines and they certainly wouldn't fit in anymore. I haven't see the funnel assembly in any of the pics yet but it shows it errected.

They could at least show us and overhead view so we can see if the module plan is correct. I guess they're quite ahead of schedule if it's true. They've built about 75% of the ship.

Actually, believe it or not, they're behind schedule now. All fitting of the modules was supposed to be complete by March, 6, 2007. The only thing they should be working on now is painting. This is of course according to their schedule they have posted on their website. It probably won't be another week until the modules are all installed (aside from the deckhouse).

Though as noted in one of the recently posted articles by BCFS reckoning they would still be 3 weeks ahead of schedule.

I would think that all the pieces in blue have been fabricated and installed as per the daily photos we see. The Hull Modules S12 and the central one are obviously installed as well as Deck Plates H31 and H21, and the newly installed Module S48. The graphics person must be behind a bit in changing the colors of the modules as work has progressed so rapidly.

I was poking around the web and came across some new Coastal Renaissance pictures. They are pictures taken from Flensburg, but the images have not been shown on the Flensburg website.
One picture is particularly interesting, it was taken by a person standing on the lower outside deck. Additionally, the pictures have a much better resolution then the ones presented on the Flensburg site, enjoy.

Some really good pics there. Especially the ones with the modules being lifted into place. I didn't recognize any names of the photographers/posters.

Looks like the propeller shaft has been installed at this end shown as well as part of the rudder being lowered into place. The blades will need to be installed. Neat pic!

From what I can tell based on todays pic, there are only three major modules to lift into place from the modules manufactured at Flensburger. That is if the pieces that are in the middle of the module diagram are indeed in place. Next would come the two major bridge modules that will arrive from Poland. The rudders and propellors and other pieces obviously have to be put in place but it is all coming together nicely. The pictures haven't been from a high enough vantage to see, but the module diagram, if correct, shows the funnel assembly in place.

Good news, the individual known only as Brinki has posted three new pictures of the first super-c on Flickr. One pic is of the funnel (lying on the ground unfortunately). The link follows: www.flickr.com/photos/brinkmann/
