Sigh good news for FSG. Bad news for the Coastal Experience .

Lots of ship orders for FSG! Even more interesting -- a four deck freight ferry. I remember Markus asking a few months ago if anyone knew of a picture of a 4-level loading dock. Could these be the ships that go with those docks?

Could these be the ships that go with those docks? First: The info about new contracts is VERY old. We secured them already early this year before the summer... Second: The info about the three tier ramp was for another customer :-)

I think a 4 deck ferry would probably have interior ramps like the big car carrying freighters that go down the fraser river from japan. Possibly double deck loding with interior ramps to the other decks.

Possibly double deck loding with interior ramps to the other decks. .....like a floating multi-level parkade. Yup, that's how it works alright. And, just like in most 'parking ramps' (fyi: Americans DON'T have parkades!), there's a toll-booth -- but to get on, rather than off!

Well spider vision is back. You gotta admire that spider for its tenacity with rebuilding that web over and over. I don't look for a few days and boom the Turkish ferry in the slip keeps growing and growing. Nor Ex is at the stage where it doesn't look like much is happening. However the areas of the ship that have lights on is growing steadily - meaning the deckhouses made in Poland are being wired and connected.

I don't know if this might eventually be a thread on its own, but I thought this one on the Flensburger Yard was the logical place for now. A story in The Tyee makes the case that the three improted ferries were improperly constructed "lemons". Is there any substance to this? thetyee.ca/News/2008/11/18/Ferries/BC's German Ferries May Be LemonsHeavy fuel use, noise, vibration and air-sucking propellers said to be problems By Andrew MacLeod Published: November 18, 2008

Hey Rod, too funny: I posted that same article 10 minutes before you, but in a different thread (I've since deleted my post). re the issues about the design-flaws, see an existing thread on the "bc ferries news" page, here: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=bcferriesnews&action=display&thread=4326It has some of the same issues that the Tyee articles has. By the way, the "thetyee.ca" article has some really interesting reader comments at the bottom of the article: I recommend that people check that out.

Under 'Our Products'
then click the 'RoPax Ferries' link in orange
at the bottom of the page...
RO-PAX SUPER SHUTTLE Lengh over all 160-220 m, 18-24 KNOTS, 250-370 PASSENGERS, 2000-3800 TRAILER LANE METRES
Maybe a future BC Ferry??? Northern Discovery??
Looks like a neat ship anyhow.

WOW! Neat photos. Interesting to see this shipyard without the "Shipbuilder's Cathedral". AND ALL THOSE NEAT CRANES! FSG has come a long way in becoming a cleaner looking shipyard this is today.

Hello Markus:
Thank you so much for giving us an inside view of a modern shipyard and the building of our new ferries.
Your reporting was enhanced and informed by your wonderful photography, your growing cinematic skills, your ability to show the human side as well as technical aspects, and, of late, your serious musical accomplishments. I felt privileged to receive your inside information, your insightful comments and your pictures of construction detail. All of this gave me a window into a work world and an industry I never would otherwise get to see.
Your video of the Northern Expedition sea trials with its classical music score skillfully blended the people, the machinery, a winter seascape, and a beautiful ship. It was stunning despite the short production time.
How did you find the time to do all of this, along with your regular FSG job, your musical responsibilities, home renovation work, and the birth of two daughters? I am amazed, and feel honoured to have 'met' you.
Markus, I do hope you will visit our corner of the world and see the fruits of your labour in their home waters.
Thanks Again,
Cobblehillian

Yardobserver:
Thank you for all your wonderful photos of our new ferries. You must know the way very well to the opposite side of the Flensburg fjord where you took so many interesting pictures. You must now come and practice your photography in some of British Columbia's beautiful fjords.

Congratulations, Mr. Brinkmann, for another great launch!
A sequential still video presentation is being put together. After a few more captures and all lifts are relieved, my video will be completed and presented. This will be done later today. A total of more than 70 captures have been taken so far!

Markus thanks for that. The video is a little freaky from that angle - you get an idea of how huge the vessel is going by above your head. It was interesting seeing the blocking under the keel.

Here, as promised, is my sequential still video of the launch of the MAZARINE for Cobelfret. I include almost everything. The launch, the berthing, the cabin installation, the stack installation, the launch gate reinstallation, the departure of the big crane, and nightfall.
ENJOY!

Well, after Mr. Brinkmann put all that effort in placing that neat photo of the NORTHERN EXPEDITION, NORTHERN ADVENTURE, and the retiring QUEEN OF PRINCE RUPERT all together in the QPR thread, I think it's time for me to don my hardhat and take a peak at the goings on in that great place of his chosen professional career. A beautiful day there in Flensburg! The next newbuilding is well underway!!
