One thing is for sure and I think we all can agree on this, Once the Spirits are retired we will never see another single ended ferry in the BC Ferries fleet with the exception of those on the Northern Coastal runs. Unless Transport Canada Bans Double ended ships for some reason. But I have had a crazy image in my head, Imagine what the Spirits would look like if they were double ended ships. Kind of cool actually.
Double ended ships are here to stay, like them or not That is probably a sure thing.

With respect to a larger Salish or a smaller Coastal, I remember David Hahn speaking on CKNW about why they were sailing the Cs more often than the Coastals at times. He was asked why BC Ferries didn't simply build additional C class ships, to which he replied that current maritime regulations wouldn't have allowed them to build a C class in such a way any longer.
