While the Queen of New Westminster is laid up, the Coastal Renaissance and Queen of Coquitlam are doing some of the Duke Point sailings. But oddly, the Coastal Renaissance just sits out in the Strait while the Coquitlam an evening round trip. It's 6 pm and I can see the Renaissance sitting just outside Departure Bay, looking very pretty in the evening sun.

I have been wondering this too. Why can’t they just use the Renaissance?? It’s not like she’s doing anything else.

I understand its due to New West being out for repairs but normally you just have one vessel to take over for another. I just don't don't understand why both Renaissance and Coquitlam are being used with Renaissance on standby for 4hrs after arriving from her 3:15pm sailing from TSW.

There's nothing to say that us ferry fans have to be aware of the crewing/operational aspects of vessel use. It's kind of like when I read something about physics. The fact that I don't understand it doesn't make it weird.

Queen of New Westminster has been moved to Esquimalt I think she will be out for month because this issue seems like major breakdown.

The reason for the offset time is to allow the Renaissance to vacate the berth. Crew training is underway on the Renaissance which is why it has only been running part time. There’s not enough crew trained to keep it running full time.

The Coastal Renaissance is on her way in to Departure Bay now. Looks like the Quadra Queen II left very early this morning and went over to Deas to make room for the Renaissance.

The Queen of Coquitlam has just left Departure Bay. The Queen of Alberni is here at Departure Bay as well, and has just signaled that she will be manoeuvring - she seems to be switching berths. I wonder if BC Ferries' game of musical chairs means that the Alberni will be parked here for a while.

Queen of Alberni and Queen of Coquitlam are on move in Howe Sound. Queen of Coquitlam is heading to Horseshoe Bay and it’s seems like Queen of Alberni is heading back to Tsawwassen. What interesting day to track out service ferry movements.

Queen of Coquitlam is now heading to Langdale. And now from Langdale the Queen of Coquitlam is coming to Departure Bay. The Coquitlam is currently providing an extra sailing on route 3 on Thursday, Friday and Sunday until.... end of June I think. This is in the schedule. Currently deadheading to/from departure bay for this. I would guess that the deadheading will turn into revenue sailings once travel restrictions are lifted for Vancouver island.
