How about creating a new forum section for discussions of general ferry or maritime transport related topics not specific to any region or system? An area where those who normally browse the BCF, NW US and other specific sections can converge.

(or also what the "Coastal Renaissance - here we go" thread is, at times?)

Kind of like "The Forward Lounge"? But that's only for non-ferry related talk, isn't it? Yes it is. This kind of discussion can go into the "North America and Abroad" board.

Then its name and description should be changed to something that more accurately reflects this use, wouldn't you say? There should also be a separate forum for discussing the non-system specific technical side of ferries and maritime transportation, be it to do with navigation, engineering or whatever else.

If you can't find a category for what you want to talk about, put it in the "Forward Lounge". It's not restricted to non-ferry talk. If you want to discuss engineering or navigation there, fine. If more people find these topics interesting and there are more of them and they become popular, then we'd think of adding a new category just to clean things up. But I'm not very interested in starting a category for something that, so far, doesn't seem to be in demand. The more categories there are - the harder it becomes to navigate.
The names and descriptions of categories could always be fine-tuned. It's an ongoing process.
