Rikki Don't Lose That Number, you don't wanna call nobody else. Send it off in a letter to yourself. Rikki, don't lose that number. It's the only one you own. You might use it if you feel better, when you get home.
....and by that I mean to announce the category for our February 2008 forum flagship. The 4 Steel-Electric ships of WSF: Nisqually, Quinault, Klickitat and Illahee.
Here is the criteria:
- your own photographs, or items in your private collection.
- postcard images are only allowed for a pre-1980's-conversion view.
- the other 2 lost-sisters aren't eligible, as they were never part of WSF, and ceased to be double-enders soon after arriving in Puget Sound.
- time period: Puget Sound service in 1941-2007 (ie. No SF Bay photos). (see above rule limiting postcard pics to the earlier pre-rebuild era).
PS: There's no hard limit on the number you can submit, just use your good judgment in deciding which items to submit. Unless you've got a gold-mine of pics, try using max-3 as a guideline.
PPS: In order to not confuse the easily-confused, I have a guideline about the script that you might add to your banner: I suggest something like "Ferries of BC Forum". If you add the word "FORUM", that will keep the idea of a WSF ferry on a "Ferries of BC" website logical. Some of our BC Members are sometimes disorientated by the phenomena of a WSF ship being on our banner.
PPPS: Size dimensions:
- be sure to post a link to your full size banner: this is to be somewhere in the range of 840 x 200 up to 960 x 240. Your banner LINK (ie. FTP-link) must be within that range.
- For this here nomination thread, also post a smaller "800 x 200" IMG that we can see and admire. It has to be 800 wide or smaller.
- Those who have difficulty following instructions will be forced to write a 1,000 word essay explaining the musical significance of the drumming style of Sheila E. Alternatively, you could contrast the music of Shelia E. with that of Sheena Easton; similar-names, different music. (one of them would regularly take the morning ferry from Bremerton, to work from 9-to-5 in Seattle, and then take another home again....).
Nominations close on January 31st at high Noon, PST. Voting starts at 8:00pm PST on January 31st, and concludes at 8:00pm PST on February 1st 2008 . (because this is a contest re USA ships, please remember that we don't trust the general membership to actually select a winner. Therefore, instead of voting for a ship, you'll be voting for an "elector", who will later go to a meeting with his/her fellow electors, in which to then sit and choose the winner. It's a system based on the expected inability of the general populace to intelligently make a choice. So when you pick a ship picture to vote for, you're actually just choosing a person to represent you.....sound familiar??)
PPPPS:
- Yes, I am aware of the irony of using the name "Steely Dan" in the same thread as "Double Enders". Yes, I am aware. Oh, the irony.
