This month, Mrs. Horn looked through the nominations, and she chose #5, based on artistic-qualities of the picture.
I voted for her choice. No, I didn't question it.... ;D

For me it was between 3, 6, 7 and 11. I liked 6 best because of the light on the Illahee

I was personally struck by the combination of quality composition and original SF-buyer Black Ball colours of #8 and felt compelled to vote for it.

I chose #6. It was a toss-up between that and #8. I think it gives a good shot of her, nice lighting, and the text is perfect.

I'm sorry, but I can't see quite a few of those images. My browser will not, under any circumstances, display any image with even one occurrence of the word "banner" in its URL.
To get around this annoyance, replace the lowercase "a" in the word "banner" with "%61" in all URLs which contain that word.

I've modified the links as requested above. Are you using ad-blocking software? I've never heard of this proble, before.

I do use ad-blocking software in my Firefox browser, but even disabling it does not help.

I find it difficult to choose between a number of fine photos here. I like almost all of them, and especially #'s 2, 7 & 11. In the end I voted for #7 as I think the composition is good and I also like the arrangement of text. It honours well the 80 year history of these vessels.
I suspect that, for the first time, we will have to have a run-off vote, to determine February's calendar girl.

I like number 11 because the photo is interesting to me and captures my favorite design of the oft changed look of the Steel-Electrics over the years.

Photo Number 6 is good. But, I like Photo Number 3. If you look very closely, the ILLAHEE has her makeshift Aft International Rules Navigation Light in the raised position. She must be serving Sidney at this moment in history. The mast, shown to the aft of the stack, was hinged at its bottom to the roof of the uptake casing and was usually in the down (level) position when not in use (resting on cradles). The tall masts you see above each wheelhouse contained a 360 degree white light and this was part of the usually used Inland Rules Navigation Lights For Double Ended Ferries. All this changed in the middle of the 1980s as all ferries were given the IRNL fixtures and new masts on many. NEAT FIND! photobucket.com/albums/ii66/ensign_pulver/Illahee-SJI-1958withtext.jpg

In the end I voted for #7 as I think the composition is good and I also like the arrangement of text. It honours well the 80 year history of these vessels. I hadn't originally planned on adding the "1927" and "2007" to the photo. I couldn't get the photo to fit within the size requirements (it was below the minimum width), so I added black rectangles with the text to each end to get around that.
