Not to mention Russian oligarchs buying your soccer teams. The morality of international capitalism and dancing with the devil. It's a despicable action, and hopefully, illegal. If allowed, I would hope that people would boycott P&O and bring them down permanently. Companies in this country do sort of the same thing, althought they have to go about it more carefully. I would never shop in a Freshco grocery store, which are re-branded Safeways, minus the contracts the former workers had before Sobey's closed them down.

DP World, the parent company, owns port facilities in Canada, including the container port in Prince Rupert, and at least one of the container ports in Vancouver. DP World is (apparently) owned by the government of the UAE (middle east).
I always assumed that P&O Ferries was a part of the shipping company P&O, which in turn is owned by Carnival Corp. Does anyone know the corporate history on this file?

Doing some research on this topic but I 'think' Carnival didn't want to get into the ferry boat business and spun the P&O Ferries off to DP World. One is constantly amazed when discovering 'who owns what' around the world. For example: The mighty roar of the MGM Lion is now owned by ..... AMAZON! Good grief Mr. Bezos, how much do you need?

I think it’s the other way around but I do think Princess & P & O cruises where independent for year or two.

I'm 'fessin-up' because a temporary brain power outage in 1974 failed to register the sale of Princess Cruises to the P & O Steam Navigation Company. Yup, you caught me Blue Bus Fan, dang it,

Here's a video I found on how Dover has been impacted by the P&O shutdown - miles long queuing along the local highways approaching Dover Port. Seeing the aerial shots of the lorries stretching as far as the eye can see is astonishing.

Does anyone have any information of the ferries of Norway? I will be visiting Haugesund and Alesund, Norway in mid-July.

Wow, those ferries are massive. About 760' long, and over 100' wide. I'd like to see the car deck layouts. Makes sense to have double enders on a route about ninety minutes in length.

Something that long, but modified to fit in one of our berths would sure take a chunk out of ferry line ups here!

About 200 feet longer than the "Spirit"-Class BC ferries. I just wonder how long it would take for those giants to unload and load at each end of their voyages?

A pair of these might be just the ticket for alleviating summer traffic woes on Route 1. I wonder, not only about what sort of dwell time would be needed for efficient unloading/loading, but also if these ships could operate through Active Pass, especially, opposing ships as is the norm now, and in fact in most years since 1960.

Yes already ships come altogether too close to the shore of Galiano while westbound Yes I know it's plenty deep but being a literal 'stone's throw' from shore makes me uneasy.

... but BC Ferries has been doing it since 1960, with an impeccable safety record. Might make a layman uncomfortable, but I think they always know where they are, in relation to the shore and other vessels.

Well, other than the Victoria & Alberni incidents, though those were not primarily related to conflict with other ferries in the Pass.

Well, other than the Victoria & Alberni incidents, though those were not primarily related to conflict with other ferries in the Pass. And the "Princess" liners. I guess most of them used Active Pass on their trips between Vancouver and Victoria. Back then, you'd be hearing steam whistles echoing off the shores. I wish I was born earlier to see and hear that! Must have been a magnificent sound!! Might be similar to that of train horns and whistles being sounded in mountain passes like Stevens Pass.

Hey, another 'ferry forum' where ferries on the North American west coast hardly rate a mention ...
