Nice shot 'paulvanb. I love watching videos of ferry travel in that part of the world where the vessels are BIG, and there are almost too many to get one's head around in one viewing. One feature that always amuses me is the lack of the BCFS-style docks. Many ports just use the wharf apron and away we go.

I have seen some very large ones, however, the Messina ferries that transport railcars are smaller than I expected.

For the other members like me, here's the result of some Googling that I did: Messina is in Italy. It's on the north-east corner of the island of Sicily, across the strait from the bottom of mainland Italy.

Because we were with relatives, hopefully Greece will my opportunity for a ride.

Greetings from Agostoli, Greece! I got an opportunity to ride on the Ainos. The cost is only €2.80 each way. I got to talking with the captain, allowing me to stay on the bridge for the trip back for free! The last two shots were taken breakfast from the stern of our ship. What!. No wing walls, vehicle ramps, overhead passenger walkways, good grief how elementary!. I love it! Can't imagine ANY of the BCFS routes disgorging vehicles and passengers what looks to be a few hundred feet away from storefronts and city streets. You lucked out with an extended bridge visit that led to a freebie return ticket too. Well done and thanks for sharing your unique ferry travel experiences.

Argostoli to Lixouri. Saves a 43-minute drive around the sound. Cars are are turned around inside the ship. Trucks and buses back on.

I just returned from a two week vacation in Belize, Central America, a country once called British Honduras when it was a British colony. It is a coastal nation with many off-shore islands, mostly tiny coral reef islets ... I did not see any real 'ferries', unless you include water taxis like the one below as a 'ferry'. Technically I guess it is a ferry as it has a regular route going back and forth on a regular schedule. One of these might be just the ticket for Bowen Island commuters! sites.google.com/site/hokeypokeywatertaxi2016/home

youtube.com/c/SoloTravelJapan I just found this channel on YouTube! It’s traveling around on mainly overnight ferries in Japan. It’s pretty neat to see the different ships and routes. If anyone is interested in ferries in Japan you should check out this channel.

They are definitely the Kings of vending machines.

Did a random on the Fjordøy, an electric ferry today. She runs from Haugesund to the islands for Feoy and Røvaer. The run is approximately 25 minutes to Røvaer. Our cruising speed was 20 knots. As well as carrying passengers, she is also a freight boat. Love it! Norway, Sweden, and Denmark have been on my bucket list for a long time. We originally planned a trip there to be done in 2021, but of course, COVID hit, and then we changed the itinerary to Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, with a little bit of Italy thrown in, because my wife has a friend living in Germany now, but Scandinavia is still VERY high on the list. And, speaking of our upcoming trip, we leave for Frankfurt today, so I'll be in Europe pretty soon, too.

Two other ferries were in port today. The Feoy Express is a small passenger-only vessel. The Bergensfjord was is for repair at a local shipyard.
