Neat models, but I'd rather go for the one that someone built of the Vacationland/Sunshine Coast Queen.
Wierd that so many things attached to BCFerries are 'brinks'... I wonder if they have contracts with Brinks security too.

The models must cost so much to build though and look at the attention to detail.

I have a static scale model of the "Mill Bay" that I built and after many years, have to restore. I gave it to my father in law as a retirement gift but it has had a few "dings" which require my attention. Many pics to come in the not too distant future......

Thats very cool and welcome to the forum. Did you make it out of fiber glass?

Nope. Hull is a solid piece of pine (it made carving the shape easier). vehicle deck and superstructure is balsa. I suppose I could upload a shot of it, of course, I have much to do on it. OK, here it is, unfinished..

OK, while I'm at it, here are the other two that I gave to the maritime museum. Of course the Alberni is incomplete, I will be finishing it there in the shop they have.

Those are amazing Variable Pitch!!! Your attention yo detail really helps add to the effect, for example how did you get the "pull" sign on the door of Mill Bay?

Amazing models boys. I tried modeling when I was younger but really didn't have the patience for it. Something I have always admired and been thinking about trying it once again.

Thanks for the compliments!
The small lettering on the doors was courtesy of a letter set. There is absolutely NO substitution when working in small scale.
It does require alot of patience, but the key is to work for short periods with a break in between. The "Van" took 4 1/2 years to complete and the "Alberni" was started in '98! I hope to complete it before the end of the year.
The Alberni actually started out as the Cowichan, but I did not like how it was going. I stripped everything back to the main deck and started over. Working in 1:203 scale is NOT an easy task and making the Alberni solved the problem. Plus, the museum does not have a model of this class, so this will make a good addition to their collection.
I will go into my photo archive and see if I can pull a few pics of what the model used to look like.

Hey, great models Variable Pitch! I don't have the time or patience for something like that, but it's great to see your hobby does. The detail is fantastic.

Stamp collecting is a 'hobby'. Building models like these is a craft, if not an art form.

Very nice models. Of course, I'm partial to the Mill Bay one. I wish I had one to display in my corporate offices . I like the Alberni one too. There is just something about her in her original configuration that is very appealing. I've said a couple of times that they should resurrect that design for any new intermediate ship they are considering as it is obviously one proven to be effective.

This looks like the appropriate place to put this. Here are some models I made in Sketch-Up. I've been doing this since about November-ish. I introduce you to, the Queen of the Coast, The Queen of Hartley Bay, and Queen of the Islands II. My first Boat, the Queen of the Coast is based off of the Coastal Class Vessels as well with some "C" Class Inspiration. This was before I had a Laptop. She took a Month to Finish. I did it in digital media class when I should've been in Photoshop... Meanwhile, the Queen of Hartley Bay Takes Different Elements from the QPR, QotN, NorAd, and NorEx. She was started after I installed Sketch-Up and transfered the file onto my laptop... Since it was on my own time. She took about 4 Months to Finish. Group Shot... I then started this on this about two weeks ago... Slowly she built up... but not without a couple of minor size issues. I had to trim her down a few times. But it really isn't easily noticible... Windows in... Then Interior... Crew Quarters... And Up to the Bridge... Then She Received Her Stripes and Name. As well as Bridge Windows... The Funnel, Almost There... And Antennas, The result, one Beauty of a Ferry. The Queen of the Islands, 2 Easily Follows in the Footsteps of the Queen of Capilano. And maybe a little Island Sky Influence in there, I was originally going to add gallery decks like the I-Sky's, They proved difficult and I ditched them. Started shortly after the Queen of Hartley Bay was Completed. Most of the structure was up in an hour. Then the windows, interior, and such were built up. She was finished earlier today about 2:00. You may notice none of these models have hulls, the answer to that is it was too hard to put in. Plus some of you might notice the Stripes are Different on every Vessel. I'll post more photos in the future and include some interior of the QotCoast and QoHartley Bay.

Post 100! ;D
Nice Models! My favourite is the Queen of Heartly Bay. It has nice lines in it and panoramic views. I'd ride it up the coast any day before NorAd.

Well it took quite a bit of searching, but found an image of what the now "Alberni" looked like originally before scrapping it. Originally it was going to be the "Cowichan", as I got to go through her top to bottom while she was in drydock at Esquimalt several years ago. I was going to illuminate the car decks and nav lights, but it just wasn't turning out the way I wanted. WAY too many wires and no way to minimize it. So, I scrapped it and since all "C"'s had the same hull (obviously), I decided it was easier to do the original Alberni at 1:203 scale. So, here's what the mess used to look like, and a sort of similar angle view of what it looks like now.... BTW, nice drawings Ship-Rider! If you had to choose one to build, which would it be?

If you had to choose one to build, which would it be? Overall, I think a Queen of Hartley Bay would be a nice addition to the Inside Passage. Though it would be nice seeing a Queen of the Islands II. Probably would look better than the I-Sky. Though, It would basically be a Cumberland Class clone. If you want a Queen of the Coast, Just go on the Coastal Renaissance.

She looks great Variable Pitch! I wouldn't want to give her up either... maybe you should start your own ferry museum.

I'm building a 5.3 spirit but lately I have been not able to work on it because of a long house renovation but started in wood regretfully and now I'm thinking I should probably make her out of fiber glass because it's much easyer to do.
and BC Ferries gave me the coolest book on the spirits building I'm sure that you have not seen the pictures but ill have to dig it up in my room.
