I'm rather surprised that nobody seems to have posted pictures of my model M.V Mill Bay, which was on display at the barbecue in Brentwood Bay from 11:30am until 12:50pm. (And yes, that's me shaking hands with David Hahn!) www.flickr.com/photos/61833567@N03/ (Here's the rest of the images from the Mill Bay Ferry)

I've got some photos of it, and I'm still working my way through my 300 photos from May 1st......so I'll get there soon. Nice work Harry. Thanks for sharing the model with the event, it was a nice addition to the day. - I walked past you once, but you were in conversation with some other people, so I didn't want to interrupt you. ps: - any truth to the rumours of the MV Quinsam working on the Mill Bay route ? (just kidding !)

As a model builder myself (sorry not ferries) I can say you have done a lovely job on the Mill Bay. Keep up the good work.

Here is forum-member "Quinsam Teen"'s fine piece of work, on display at Brentwood Bay on May 1, 2011. (Barqs product-placement courtesy of The Canadian Viking.)

Here's my latest model, not 100% finished. This would be BCF's biggest ferry, if built. File opens in Google Earth. EDIT: You have to zoom the map out a tad to find the model, as it's a little bit north of where the camera drops you EDIT AGAIN: for some reason, some of the white colours show as black... bizarre. Still worth looking at though. Attachments:filename (244.28 KB)

ps: - any truth to the rumours of the MV Quinsam working on the Mill Bay route ? (just kidding !) That could actually happen... should the Malahat be closed in future, the Quinsam (or the Bowen Queen?) could actually work alongside the Klitsa to relieve the load.

Unless you mean closed due to snowload during Winter, or a car accident, then the Malahat will never be closed. If anything, it'll be widened and straightened out, maybe even re-routed around the hill in the future.

He's referring to the relatively frequent temporary closings of the malahat due to car accidents, fuel spills and/or weather. I don't know if it made the news over across the pond, but last month a tanker truck spilled approximately 40,000L of gasoline and diesel into Goldstream River. The 'hat was closed for 22 hours while preliminary cleanup took place, which cut Victoria off from the rest of the island, aside from the Mill Bay ferry and the logging roads from Port Renfrew.

Hi everyone. I have loved building BC Ferries since I was old enough to put lego together. Thirty years later I am working to complete the last few ships of the old expo fleet. I have 33 of them done now. I am working out of foam sheet in 1/1250 scale. I would love to do the Spirit of Vancouver Island and the Queen of Vancouver in 1/87 (HO scale) when time permits me to start. I will post some pictures shortly of my mini-fleet. It is hard to capture a lot of the detail in a ship under 5 " long, but it is a fun hobby for me! Nice to see others into doing the same!

Sure, we'll say this is a model of a BC Ferry...
As for looks, I'd say it's a cross between the Queen of Oak Bay/Surrey and the Sechelt Queen.
Carried aboard the Oak Bay's 0830 sailing on Wednesday, May 6th. Now to find out if this a part of a new float or possibly a piece of playground equipment...

My 1/350 scale model of Queen of Nanaimo made with some 3d printed parts and styrene
(The longer I look at my model the more inaccuracies I find, this model is not accurate)

Great modelling! Did the Queen of Nanaimo ever have a bulbous bow installed? I thought it was added during the “lifting” project.

Great modelling! Did the Queen of Nanaimo ever have a bulbous bow installed? I thought it was added during the “lifting” project. Thanks! I thought they all had bulbous bow because Queen of New Westminster has bulbous bow so I didn't change the bulbous bow. I looked at a picture Queen of Nanaimo has no bulbous bow.
