Alaskan cruise ship rescued after running aground A cruise ship that ran aground for about nine hours Monday morning near Glacier Bay in Alaska has been towed to safety, U.S. Coast Guard officials said. A spokesman for Cruise West, which owns the ship, said the passengers had been transferred to a National Park Service vessel that was to take them to a nearby port, from where they would be transferred to the airport in Juneau. The 207-foot Spirit of Glacier Bay had 51 people on board, officials said. No injuries were reported. A Coast Guard spokesman said it was unclear whether the incident was caused by human error or a mechanical or electronic malfunction. Cruise West said it will refund half the price of the cruise in cash and half in credit for a future cruise.
