Here's a multi-version compilation of the evening sky transition. - shot in Nanaimo, on December 23, 2013.
I started with 2 hours of footage, from 3:45pm to 5:45pm. All shot from same location, angle and zoom.
I then used software to speed it up 10 times. Using that 10x version as a base, I then played around with other speeds (50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 times). I've included all those various speeds in my YouTube video, because I found that different speeds allow you to notice different things.
I had lots of fun doing this, and in watching the results. I think that the highlights are Venus and the clouds. - and the Wheaton family's "After Eight" yacht is pretty nice too.
ps: the only ferry is the Protection Island ferry, which passes by many times.

A sped-up video by me, filmed at Pipers Lagoon park in Nanaimo. - from Noon to 4:15pm on January 4, 2014.
The moving clouds are the star of the show, but I've also shown the ferry movement at a slower-pace in the 2nd half of the video. - look at the rocks in the foreground, and you'll see that in the time that I was there, the tide went out a bit, and then came back in.

The Butchart Gardens, on the Saanich Peninsula, are one of my favourite places. - here are some photos from October 2013: Low to the ground, in the Japanese garden: Various waterfalls in the Japanese garden: For anyone who enjoys excellence in fine detail, I highly recommend Butchart Gardens for a visit. It is worth every penny of the admission price.

I like to shoot long video and then speed it up.
Here is Pipers Lagoon morning timelapse, taking over 6 hours of footage from March 23, 2014.
Sped up at 500x, 1000x and 200x to see different effects. My favourite thing to watch is the clouds.
Also, just after the sun rises, you can see the impact on the water as there is a ripple effect that shoots across the water. You can see that best at 1:35 of the video.

Here's a scene that I've photographed and posted a few times or more already. - here is part of a darkness/dawn/sunrise sequence that I shot this morning at Nanaimo. These are HDR shots (high dynamic range and heavy dude rendered) -------------- The Coast Bastion Inn is the left hand brown-brick shorter tower. This hotel, built in the early 1980s by Nanaimo Commonwealth Holdings Society (you might have heard of them), is still the best hotel in downtown Nanaimo. I'm considering renting a top-floor room for a couple nights this summer, to do some photography & video work from. The Beacon condo tower (out of this frame's left side) would block some of the harbour view, but not all.

Are these hdr shots in-camera or manually bracketed?

Are these hdr shots in-camera or manually bracketed? In camera. But they are done old-fashioned in that I took them at different times, over a 2 hour period. So no change to the exposure time; just a change to the actual real daylight.

I wanted to do a "Tide Lapse" video of the neck at Neck Point park, in Nanaimo.
The weather and tide-tables and my schedule co-operated on May 19, 2014, and I spent 5 hours there filming.
Here is the result.

Flying into San Diego is one of the more dramatic approaches out of any that I have experienced. The airport is so close to the downtown, and the approach takes you right past the buildings at a very low altitude. I managed to capture a couple of pics of this from last week's flight. Enjoy!

I do a lot of these kinds of sped-up videos, but I think this one's pretty good, with all the cloud movement.

Mt. Edith Cavell is a lovely mountain visible from Jasper townsite and surrounding area. Here it is in evening light, seen from Hwy 16, just east of the Maligne rd. turnoff. September 10, 2014 ...and the mountain is named for: CAVELL, the ladyNext year, a group of English nurses are planning to climb the mountain, in recognition of the 100th anniversary of Edith's tragic & unjust death.

Nice to see that the sun has returned and that you can finally see the mountains. Mt. Edith Cavell is indeed a lovely Mountain. Though I like its current name, and how it honours a heroic nurse and an awful event from 100 years ago, I also liked its earlier name and the way it honoured Canadian history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Edith_CavellBTW, the name Cavell is almost always mispronounced by almost everyone. Apparently it rhymes with 'gravel', the stuff that you find a lot of on unpaved roads.
Are you heading south tomorrow?

Last night I went down to check out the Pier to snap a few photos, and exercise my D5200. Development, Development, Development... at least they've kept the Waterfront open Lonsdale Quay Market at night. The little deck right below the rotating "Q" is a nice little platform to watch all the action from.
