Okay, you are a socialist - I get it. I got a similarly incorrect assumption reaction when I challenged some NDPers on a Nanaimo facebook forum ("A Better Nanaimo") who insisted on referring to Tony Harris as a "Car Salesman" in a demeaning style. My response to them was that I wasn't against their politics, I was just against dumb posting. Same here.

We're engaged in a dialogue where we try to limit each post to 5 words, usually as a question. (yes, I just broke the chain)

And why should anybody have to restate questions that are still there, easily readable, from four hours previous? I give up. Yes, it was entertaining. Almost as good as watching Don Lemon on CNN tonight crack up at Paul Manafort's denial of Donald Trump having no business whatsoever in Russia. I know... zero connection to this thread, but fun is where you find it.

I love how they can barely speak English, but they've always got names like Sam Wilson. I bamboozled one of them who told me that the police were going to show up "at my doorstep" in 45 minutes to arrest me. I asked which police? He said "the Hornby Island police". I said that there were no police on Hornby Island because it was two ferries and two hours away from the 'courthouse' that he also threatened me with. Apparently, after consulting with his script, he didn't feel confident about going on to the next part which probably had me going to the local Walmart to buy 'vouchers' to pay my taxes, and he hung up.

Ahoy, Mike & Neil mike: the following wasn't really a question from you, it was an assumption that was not worth my revisiting, but I have anyway. No, I am not using this forum to social-media campaign for the BC Liberal Party. I clearly stated in an earlier post we moved to Nanaimo [from the mainland] because there was the HabourLynx ferry; to wit: "We moved to Nanaimo (2004) dependent on the HarbourLynx, and are anxious for such a great service to be in place again.” I note this thread is 10 years old, and we’re still praying for a necessary service like this-! @neil: your post was not worth my revisiting, but I have anyway. You clearly have your biases, to which I do not agree. Thank you both for getting unreasonably political against a beneficial Vancouver/ Nanaimo foot ferry operation. We just want the ferry. Thank you, “Ferry Friends”

Thank you both for getting unreasonably political ... Did I not read your words calling someone here a 'socialist'? Maybe you could also throw in that 'globalist' word too. Now, just who is being political?
That said, I, and most of the other long term members of this forum, are not against a fast & efficient commuter ferry connection between downtown Nanaimo & downtown Vancouver. But history over the last three decades or so tells us that such a service will not survive. There was Harbourlynx, & before that Royal Sealink Express. There are other examples too.
The only way I see commuter ferry services surviving in the long term is for them to receive taxpayer subsidies just like all other land-based transit systems. Is the BC Liberal Party or their candidate in the Nanaimo by-election proposing such a subsidy? Or is this nothing more than a 'best wishes' show of support?
The BC Liberals 16 continuous years of government showed very little love to ferry dependant coastal communities. Ferry services were cut (in some cases drastically) and fares increases far outstripped the inflation rate. It should not come as a surprise that we are a little skeptical when a BC Liberal candidate voices support for a commuter ferry service.

Perhaps you did not read my earlier post--please have a gander.

No need for 'Crystal Balls', just a need to study history. Bottom line: Are the BC Liberals pledging tax-payer support for this venture? If not, it will fail.

Why the negativity, WettCoast?
Please direct your question to the BC Liberals, or the NDP, or whomever.
Nanaimo requires this service. Period.
Be positive-!
