As per our musical moderator's suggestion, I have activated a new thread exclusively for all postings and chartings related to the delivery voyage of the MV NORTHERN EXPEDITION from Flensburg to British Columbia. Here is my initial chart: This shows the World which we reside and the areas the NORTHERN EXPEDITION will sail. We are all set up now for the cruise. Let us all enjoy this one! And, we'll leave the taking of seasick pills to those who need them!! ;D

Do we know that it is going to Departure Bay?

I don't think Departure Bay has ever or very often been the "service centre" for the Northern Vessels. The Queen of the North used Deas, TSW and occasionally HSB. However, the one thing that may change is if there was an overlap in equipment with the Coastals and there was enough expertise with it in DPB.

Both Queen of The North and Queen of Prince Rupert were known to tie up in DB the odd time before thier trip up North.

The Kiel Canal authority has released a time lapsed video of a transit of the Kiel Canal. We can now see what it's like to transit this amazing canal. This is all in daylight. The NORTHERN EXPEDITION may, however, transit this canal partly or mostly in night as was in the case of the Coastals. www.kiel-canal.de/flvplayer/index.htmlwww.kiel-canal.de/Along the way, we see an unbelievable amount of tiny ferries crossing the canal. And, we do get to see "ourselves" passing under that famous bridge at Rendsburg. This video also shows a change of pilots mid-way and "on the fly". We'll see sidings, used for big ships to meet each other safer, as well as a few pleasure vessels. Hopefully, and depending on your Internet connection, your computer will play this video. Click on the blue box "CANAL-FILM" on the Canal's home page. Enjoy!

That canal clip is very cool. The ships seem so plastic and fragile in it as they scoot around. It may be a time lapse video but it seem like live motion.
Cheers,

Pathfinder has now officially ended its tracking coverage of the delivery voyage of the MV COASTAL CELEBRATION and is now set up for the same on the MV NORTHERN EXPEDITION. Just revisited this site this morning. pathfinder.applocation.net/bcferries/route14.htmlHere is what we see with my additions. The slate at the lower left will show the "current" position at the end of each Pacific Time day. The darker one on the right will show the previous day. As we see, her first port of call is slated to be Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

The thing is, 747's have never landed at Comox. I think you've made history here, ferrynutseattle.

As a fairly direct comparison illustrating the quality of Flight Sim: From ferrynutseattle's "Ferry Forum's FSG Fantasy Flight" From my flight home from Seattle last Monday. Ha ha...bonus points for the carrier and aircraft...extra bonus points for the seat number. (No cheating NE )

I had the airline down to two and guessed the model family of the aircraft. Karl may have an advantage but lets see who can beat me.

I think it is an American Airlines MD-82. Nice flights too ferrynutseattle, although a 747 in Comox would be a sight to see.

Here we go with the first views of sailing preparations today. Setting up the flags and starting the ship's engines. Mr. Brinkmann has announced the sailing time on the NE general thread: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=newferries&action=display&thread=2362&page=35Sad and happy at the same time. In less then two hours the NorEx will sail to Kiel (she will be around 16:00h in Kiel and then pass the Kiel canal). Every FSG worker is invited to wave goodbye at 9 o´clock. If everybody comes, that will be an impressive image. And yes, we will try to photograph her leaving ;-) Thanks for everything and a good and safe voyage to the Northern Expedition!

That's 08:00 UTC, or 00:00 PDT. So that makes S - 1 hr 26 min.
Stand by everyone! We're about to set sail!

TEE MINUS SIXTY MINUTES AND COUNTING. Daylight has now arrived in Flensburg.

It looks as though the BCF tracker has set itself up for failure. The fix frequency is way too low, currently set at about one report every two hours. TEE MINUS SIXTY MINUTES AND COUNTING. That's ESS, for sailing.

... count down is running. The tug "KIEL" is in standby. It´s a bit foggy this morning -- not the best conditions for good photos.

SHE'S UNDER WAY! The VET clock started at 00:14 PST (08:14 UTC, 09:14 CET).
Reason for delay: Mechanical difficulties with vessel.
